About The Position

Knowesis is currently seeking an exceptional SQL Server Database Specialist to join our team and provide invaluable support to the Department of Defense Office of Inspector General (DoD OIG) Information Technology Support Services (ITSS) Bridge contract. To be eligible for this position, candidates must have or have the ability to obtain a Secret security clearance and possess United States Citizenship without the need for sponsorship, both now and in the future. Applicants without proof of United States Citizenship will not be considered due to the position's security clearance requirements. The Job Duties and Responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following: Provide database management, design, troubleshooting, and configuration of Microsoft Structured Query Language (SQL) Server database systems for the Department of Defense Office of Inspector General (DoD OIG) Plan, coordinate, and implement security measures to safeguard information in computer files against accidental or unauthorized damage, modification, or disclosure Modify existing databases and database management systems in accordance with policy and procedures created to optimize and secure data Test programs and databases, correct errors, and make necessary modifications Develop methods for integrating different products, so they work properly together, such as customizing commercial databases to fit specific needs Design, install, and support Microsoft High Availability solutions and Windows Load Balancing for database systems Design, install, and support MySQL Fabric and MySQL replication to support data redundancy Perform database installation, configuration, and upgrades for Microsoft SQL Server instances Develop and maintain database schemas, tables, views, stored procedures, functions, and triggers Optimize database performance through query tuning, index optimization, and database configuration adjustments Monitor database performance, capacity, and availability, and proactively address issues Implement and manage database backup and recovery strategies and procedures Perform database restoration and recovery operations when needed Implement and maintain database security, including user access controls, permissions, and role-based security Develop and maintain database documentation, including data dictionaries, entity-relationship diagrams, and backup/recovery procedures Support application development teams with database design, query optimization, and troubleshooting Create and maintain database reports and provide data analysis support Implement and manage database replication, clustering, and high availability solutions Perform data migration and integration activities between database systems Apply patches, updates, and security fixes to SQL Server instances following established change management procedures Ensure all database solutions are in compliance with Defense Information Systems Agency (DISA) Security Technical Implementation Guides (STIGs), Department of Defense (DoD), and OIG policies and standards Follow all OIG Change Management and Engineering Review processes and ensure changes are completed according to the project and release manager schedule Work with the OIG Project Management Office (PMO) to establish and meet project milestones to ensure all solutions meet documented customer requirements and are within project scope Maintain existing and, as required, develop new documentation that includes Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), database design documentation, and technical specifications, adhering to organizational templates, policies, and standards Troubleshoot and resolve database connectivity, performance, and functionality issues Monitor database growth and capacity planning for future resource requirements Implement and maintain database auditing and compliance reporting Support the OIG PMO and Enterprise Architect (EA) during requirement analysis to develop technical solution options for database systems Provide technical support and guidance to application developers and users for database-related issues Participate in disaster recovery planning and testing for database systems Meet OIG established service level metrics and performance standards Travel within the Continental United States (CONUS) and the National Capital Region (NCR) may be required to attend meetings, conferences, and training

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited university in computer science, information systems, information technology, or a related technical field
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in database administration, database development, or related technical roles
  • Strong experience with Microsoft SQL Server (SQL Server 2012, 2014, 2016, 2017, 2019, or later)
  • Experience with database design, including schema design, normalization, and entity-relationship modeling
  • Experience with Transact-SQL (T-SQL) programming, including stored procedures, functions, triggers, and views
  • Experience with database performance tuning and optimization
  • Experience with database backup and recovery strategies and procedures
  • Experience with database security implementation, including user access controls and permissions
  • Experience with high availability solutions such as Always On Availability Groups, database mirroring, or failover clustering
  • Experience with database monitoring and capacity planning
  • Knowledge of Department of Defense Security Technical Implementation Guides (STIGs) and compliance requirements for database systems
  • Strong documentation skills and ability to create technical specifications and database documentation
  • Experience working in a government or DoD environment
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to work effectively with technical and non-technical stakeholders

Nice To Haves

  • Information Assurance Technician (IAT) Level I certification in accordance with DoD 8570.01-M guidance (Security Plus, GIAC Security Essentials Certification (GSEC), Certified Ethical Hacker (CEH), or similar)
  • Microsoft Certified: Azure Database Administrator Associate
  • Microsoft Certified Solutions Associate (MCSA): SQL Server or Microsoft Certified Database Administrator (MCDBA)

  • Experience with Assured Compliance Assessment Solution (ACAS) vulnerability scanning for database systems
  • Experience with disaster recovery planning and implementation for database systems
  • Experience with virtualized database environments (VMware, Hyper-V)
  • Master's degree in computer science, information systems, information technology, or related technical field
  • Current Secret or Top Secret security clearance
  • Multiple Microsoft database certifications

Responsibilities
