About The Position

Presidio is seeking an experienced and highly skilled Senior SQL Server DBA to join our IT team. This role is responsible for the design, implementation, maintenance, and performance tuning of SQL Server databases across the enterprise. The ideal candidate will have deep expertise in SQL Server architecture, high availability, disaster recovery, and automation, with a strong focus on security, scalability, and performance. Travel Requirements: This role will be required to be on client site in nearby Irving, TX are 5 days a week.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree or the equivalent work experience and/or military experience (Degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related field (is preferred)
  • 7+ years of experience as a SQL Server DBA in a production environment
  • Expert-level knowledge of Microsoft SQL Server (2016/2019/2022)
  • Strong experience with HA/DR technologies (Always On Availability Groups, Failover Clustering, etc.)
  • Proficiency in performance tuning, query optimization, and indexing strategies
  • Experience with SQL Server Integration Services (SSIS), Reporting Services (SSRS), and SQL Agent
  • Solid understanding of Windows Server environments and Active Directory integration
  • Strong scripting skills (T-SQL, PowerShell)
  • Familiarity with cloud-based database services (e.g., Azure SQL, AWS RDS) is a plus
  • Excellent problem-solving, communication, and documentation

Nice To Haves

  • Microsoft Certified: Azure Database Administrator Associate or similar certification.
  • Experience with DevOps practices and CI/CD pipelines for database deployments.
  • Familiarity with monitoring tools such as Redgate, SolarWinds DPA, or SentryOne.
  • Experience working in regulated environments (e.g., SOX, HIPAA, PCI) is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Design, install, configure, and maintain SQL Server databases (2016 and newer) in production and non-production environments.
  • Monitor database performance, implement tuning improvements, and proactively address potential issues.
  • Develop and maintain backup and recovery strategies, including high availability (HA) and disaster recovery (DR) solutions (e.g., Always On, Log Shipping, Replication).
  • Implement and enforce database security policies, including user access controls, encryption, and auditing.
  • Collaborate with application developers and infrastructure teams to optimize database design and query performance.
  • Automate routine database tasks using PowerShell, T-SQL, or other scripting tools.
  • Perform database upgrades, patching, and migrations with minimal downtime.
  • Participate in capacity planning and forecasting for database growth and resource needs.
  • Maintain documentation for database configurations, processes, and procedures.
  • Provide 24/7 support for critical production systems as part of an on-call rotation.
