About The Position

Miami VA Healthcare System is looking for a Senior Social Worker- Housing and Urban Development/ VA Supportive Housing (HUD/VASH) for their Flagler VA Clinic located at 1492 West Flagler Street, Miami, FL 33135. Senior Social Workers have experience that demonstrates possession of advanced practice skills and judgment. Total Rewards of a Allied Health Professional Senior Social Workers in the Healthcare for Homeless Veterans Program (HCHV) work independently in the field in community-based settings, and are expected to make clinical decisions in complex cases with no immediate supervision or access to resources. Social Workers for the Housing and Urban Development/VA Supportive Housing (HUD/VASH) program will work with formerly homeless veterans in their own homes, providing advanced level clinical services and long-term clinical case management, which involves problem-solving skills and the ability to maintain an ongoing therapeutic relationship, at times, over the course of several years. The Senior Social Worker is expected to display a high level of professionalism and organizational stewardship in all dealings with the community as a representative of the Department of Veterans Affairs. The Senior Social Worker is required to become familiar with relevant accreditation standards, including the Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities (CARF) and the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Facilities (JCAHO). Additional duties include but not limited to: Interviews veterans and their family members/significant others to establish facts about the veteran's homelessness situation, presenting problems and their causes, and the impact of such problems on the veterans functioning and health as part of a comprehensive psychosocial assessment. Interprets and explain VA's treatment and benefit programs. Reviews all data, subjective and objective, makes a clinical assessment, identifying needs and strengths. Effectively uses professional skill, objectivity and insight. Uses advanced clinical training, insight and experience to interpret data and to identify viable treatment options. Assesses high risk factors, acuity and needs for services. Monitors and assists veterans to maintain appointments at VAMC and other community agencies for medical, psychiatric, substance abuse, vocational and other services consistent with veteran's goals associated with healthful independent living. Refers veterans to appropriate VA and other government/ community services including: local shelters, food banks, employment services, veteran's benefits, and social security applications. Assists veterans who encounter problems obtaining services from the VA and other service delivery agencies, by increasing their problem solving/social interaction skills. Will be expected to conduct community-based home/field visits to formerly homeless veterans who are admitted to HUD-VASH and are housed by one of the partnering Public Housing Authorities (PHA). The HUD-VASH Program is assigned a fleet of government issued vehicles, and the incumbent will provide documentation of having a valid State drivers license, as well as provide evidence of the annual required Talent Management System (TMS) trainings prior to operating a government vehicle.

  • Competitive salary and regular salary increases When setting pay, a higher step rate of the appropriate grade may be determined after consideration of higher or unique qualifications or special needs of the VA (Above Minimum Rate of the Grade).
