About The Position

A Senior Social Services Coordinator reviews, monitors and processes a variety of complex client cases involving the provision of social, health, vocational, rehabilitation or related services to City residents. Work of this class involves providing work directions to staff members in the processing and handling of casework. Incumbents receive general supervision from a technical superior. Employees in this class work a conventional workweek. Work is performed in homes, health clinics and neighborhood communities where there may be exposure to dangerous or unsanitary conditions, hostile individuals and groups or contagious diseases. Work requires minimal physical exertion.

Requirements

  • EDUCATION: Have a bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in vocational rehabilitation, health or human services, nursing or a closely related health or social service field.
  • EXPERIENCE: Have three years of experience in coordinating, monitoring and processing cases involving the provision of health, social, vocational or rehabilitation services to clients.
  • NOTE EQUIVALENCIES: Have an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Responsibilities

  • Maintaining confidential, accurate and detailed client case information and records.
  • Conducting and processing multiple case assignments simultaneously.
  • Motivating others to follow a designated regimen or course of action and to effect behavior modifications.
  • Reviewing and analyzing client records and evaluating the implementation and progress of recommended care or strategies to ensure that progress, recovery or treatment complies with professional standards.
  • Coordinating responses and work efforts from multiple public and private agencies, institutions and community resource organizations.
  • Collecting, reviewing and analyzing client case records in order to make recommendations on ways to simplify reporting and documentation practices and procedures.
  • Communicating effectively, both orally and in writing.
  • Disseminating information and to explain City, State and private institutional services and programs to individuals, business and community groups.
  • Establishing and maintaining effective liaisons with people of varied backgrounds, including clients, families, neighbors, government representatives and public and private community, institutions, service providers and personnel.
  • Providing work directions and advice to staff on work procedures, client handling, problem identification resolution, case processing and resource utilization.
  • Dealing with emergency or crisis situations with calm, tact and dispatch.
  • Operating and utilizing standard business pc equipment and software programs.
  • Training others in work processes and procedures.
