About The Position

The Service Electrician, you will be responsible for responding to customer service requests, diagnosing electrical issues, and performing repairs and maintenance on electrical systems at customer facilities. Your role will involve troubleshooting complex electrical problems, providing emergency service, performing preventive maintenance and delivering exceptional customer service.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • State of Michigan Journeyman Electrician license required.
  • Minimum of 5 years of electrical experience in commercial and industrial service and maintenance
  • Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record
  • Ability to occasionally lift objects up to 50 pounds.
  • Must be capable of standing for extended periods, performing repetitive bending and squatting motions, and working in overhead conditions.
  • Ability to work in tight and confined spaces and on ladders or elevated platforms.
  • Comfortable working in various environmental conditions at customer facilities.
  • Must be willing and able to travel regularly to customer sites throughout the area, with trips typically consisting of same-day service calls
  • Must be available for emergency service calls, which may require travel on short notice.
  • Participation in on-call rotation, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
  • Strong electrical troubleshooting, problem solving and diagnostic skills.
  • Self-motivated and highly productive, with excellent time management skills.
  • Outstanding customer service and communication skills, with the ability to interact professionally with customers, management, contractors and team members.
  • Ability to explain technical information to non-technical customers.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality workmanship.
  • Reliable, punctual, and professional demeanor when representing the company in the field with the ability to work independently with minimal supervision.

Nice To Haves

  • OSHA 10-hour safety certification preferred.
  • Hands-on experience with PLC programming, troubleshooting, and control panel fabrication

Responsibilities

  • Respond promptly to customer service requests, including emergency calls and scheduled maintenance visits.
  • Diagnose and repair electrical failures in commercial and industrial facilities, minimizing customer downtime.
  • Perform on-site troubleshooting of electrical systems, identifying root causes and implementing effective solutions.
  • Provide accurate time estimates for repairs and communicate clearly with customers throughout the service process.
  • Perform additional tasks assigned by management to ensure customer satisfaction and operational efficiency.
  • Troubleshoot electrical components, including transformers, motors, panels, circuits, switchgear, motor control centers (MCCs), and related systems.
  • Utilize diagnostic tools such as voltmeters, ohmmeters, meggers, and thermal imaging equipment to test and analyze electrical circuits, equipment, and fixtures.
  • Identify electrical malfunctions quickly and efficiently, using both test equipment and hand tools to make necessary repairs.
  • Diagnose issues with conveyor systems, lighting, and power distribution systems.
  • Perform preventive maintenance on electrical systems to ensure optimal performance and reduce future failures.
  • Replace defective components, including breakers, fuses, relays, starters, VFD drives and other electrical devices.
  • Repair and replace conduit, wiring, and electrical fixtures as needed during service calls.
  • Install, modify, and upgrade electrical systems based on customer needs and code requirements.
  • Always maintain professional and courteous interactions with customers.
  • Explain electrical issues and repair options to customers in clear, understandable terms.
  • Provide recommendations for system improvements, upgrades, and preventive maintenance.
  • Complete detailed service reports and documentation for each customer visit.
  • Build and maintain positive customer relationships to support repeat business.
  • Ongoing commitment to safety standards and best practices in electrical work.
  • Conduct thorough testing of electrical systems after repairs to ensure proper functionality and safety.
  • Verify all work meets current National Electrical Code (NEC) and local electrical codes.
  • Ensure all repairs and installations comply with safety standards and manufacturer specifications.
  • Maintain factory licenses and certifications as required.
  • Read and interpret blueprints, wiring diagrams, schematics, P&IDs and equipment manuals to diagnose and repair electrical systems.
  • Reference technical documentation to ensure proper repair procedures and component specifications.
  • Create and update technical documentation as required.
  • Manage service vehicle inventory, ensuring necessary tools, parts, and equipment are available for service calls.
  • Maintain accurate records of time, materials, and services provided at each customer location.
  • Order and pick up parts as needed to complete service calls efficiently.
  • Prepare service reports, work orders and project documentation using Microsoft Office Applications.
