KBR is seeking an experienced Senior Scrum Master to support Agile development, operations, and maintenance for the National Weather Service (NWS) . This position works in a fast‑paced environment leading multiple technical Agile teams developing mission‑critical meteorological and environmental systems. Role Overview The Senior Scrum Master will guide, coach, and support cross‑functional Agile teams—consisting of software engineers, systems engineers, DevOps engineers, and cloud specialists—through all phases of Agile delivery. The ideal candidate brings deep knowledge of Agile principles, exceptional facilitation and communication skills, and a passion for helping teams continuously improve while supporting the NWS mission.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in a technical field (e.g., Engineering, Computer Science, Atmospheric Science, or related discipline).
  • Minimum 8 years of experience leading technical and/or scientific efforts for federal agencies.
  • Proven experience serving as Scrum Master for technical teams involving software engineering, systems engineering, and/or DevOps.
  • Industry‑recognized Scrum Master certification (e.g., CSM, PSM I+).
  • Strong understanding of Agile frameworks, practices, and scaling approaches.
  • Experience using Agile project management tools (e.g., Jira, Confluence).
  • Solid knowledge of the Secure Software Development Lifecycle (SSDLC).
  • Excellent communication, conflict resolution, and facilitation skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to think critically, adapt quickly, and collaborate effectively in dynamic environments.
  • Team‑oriented mindset with humility, empathy, and alignment to the NWS mission.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience supporting cloud engineering solutions and services.
  • Experience leading or facilitating technical teams performing cloud migrations.
  • Familiarity with meteorological systems, atmospheric science environments, or NOAA/NWS ecosystems.
  • Experience with CI/CD pipelines and DevSecOps practices.
  • Relevant certifications such as SAFe Scrum Master, PMI‑ACP, or Agile Coach credentials.
  • Education and experience may be evaluated in combination to meet position requirements.

Responsibilities

  • Facilitate all Scrum ceremonies for multiple Agile teams (daily stand‑ups, sprint planning, backlog refinement, sprint reviews, and retrospectives).
  • Coach teams and leaders on Agile best practices, fostering continuous improvement and scalable delivery.
  • Work closely with Product Owners to ensure well‑defined and prioritized backlogs aligned with program goals.
  • Identify, track, and remove impediments to maintain team productivity and sprint commitments.
  • Guide teams in the use of Agile metrics and reporting tools, including velocity, burndown charts, and predictive analytics for release planning.
  • Support PI planning, cross‑team coordination, risk management, and program‑level communication.
  • Promote adherence to the Secure Software Development Lifecycle (SSDLC) and other compliance standards required by federal programs.
  • Collaborate with engineering leads to ensure alignment between sprint work, architecture direction, and technical standards.
  • Champion a culture of transparency, accountability, and continuous delivery.
  • Serve as a mentor to junior Scrum Masters and Agile team members.
