About The Position

About This Role Biogen has made a substantial investment in a state-of-the-art parallel medicinal chemistry (PMC) suite, and we are looking for a creative, talented scientist to apply cutting-edge approaches to discover new medicines to treat CNS and immunological disorders. The successful candidate will hold a key role in the Medicinal Chemistry group working closely together with project teams to identify opportunities for library synthesis. The candidate will drive the strategy for internal and external PMC efforts to support programs from the Hit ID to Lead Optimization phase of discovery. This important position is embedded in the Chemical Technologies group and together with H.T.E. experts the PMC scientist will enable and implement diverse and robust approaches to PMC synthetic routes. In addition, as a key contributor to small molecule discovery projects, the candidate will need to demonstrate independent problem-solving skills and work well in a team environment. What You’ll Do Collaborate regularly with medicinal chemistry teams on designing, prioritizing, and executing focused libraries that help the team address critical issues Drive the internal and external PMC strategy and manage the seamless access to building block resources Develop new synthetic routes to enable diverse and robust parallel medicinal chemistries Partner with the High Throughput Experimentation (H.T.E.) team to identify optimal reaction conditions. Perform manually and/or automated parallel synthesis and work-up procedures of focused libraries on small scale Maintain a significant laboratory presence that is focused on identifying and enabling critical synthetic chemistry for advancing the projects as well for use by chemistry CROs Manage and oversee work done by CROs Who You Are You are a scientist with a strong background in medicinal/synthetic organic chemistry, capable of running reactions in parallel, and eager to explore new chemistry transformations and turn them into robust library formats. You love learning new technological skills and you are interested in improving process efficiencies. You are self-driven, well organized and a team player who can work across multiple programs to make impactful contributions to drug discovery.
