As the Senior Community Event & Marketing Specialist, Retail at Brooks, your work will be the heartbeat of grassroots outreach and hometown marketing to drive forward Brooks’ mission to “awaken the runner in everyone”. You will be responsible for ideating, planning, and executing experiential marketing events and community initiatives that build deep local engagement, drive foot traffic, and reinforce Brooks’ leadership in performance running. This role is perfect for someone who thrives at the intersection of retail, marketing, and community building – someone who understands both the power of brand storytelling and the importance of authentic local relationships.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Marketing, or related field; equivalent combination of education and years of experience can be considered in lieu of degree(s)
  • 3+ years of experience in community marketing, relevant brand owned retail, event coordination, or retail marketing; experience working in specialty retail ideally in performance, lifestyle, or outdoor brand setting, preferred
  • Proficient in event planning, grassroots outreach, and social media engagement
  • Experience managing local partnerships or grassroots ambassador programs
  • Familiarity with Canva, Eventbrite, Mailchimp, and Instagram for business
  • Background in fitness coaching, running leadership, or nonprofit community organizing
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. and stand for extended periods
  • Comfortable working evenings and weekends to support community events
  • Self-starter with a strong sense of ownership and initiative
  • Strong organization skills with the ability to juggle multiple projects and timelines
  • Ability to anticipate how a decision made can affect our customers, our partners, our products or other departments’ operations and/or morale; “connecting the dots”
  • Excellent interpersonal skills that inspire and build trust, resulting in effective working relationships across the store and company
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, demonstrating effective listening through concise, clear verbal and written communication
  • Keen attention to detail in planning, organization and execution of tasks, while still seeing the big picture and understanding how all of the pieces fit together and affect one another
  • Passionate participation in Brooks’ sports activities a plus, overridden by the ability to understand and empathize with the runner in order to develop loyal, engaging relationships with our customers and the Brooks community

Responsibilities

  • Work cross-functionally and independently to develop and execute a calendar of community events, including fun runs, training groups, wellness workshops, product trials, local race support, Brooks Run Club activities, and seasonal activations.
  • Partner with local run clubs, race directors, fitness influencers, and nonprofit organizations to amplify event impact and store visibility.
  • Serve as on-site lead for all events – ensuring smooth logistics, high energy, and strong representation of our brand values.
  • Leverage customer and team feedback to continuously improve event experiences.
  • Champion the store’s brand presence in the local market through innovative grassroots marketing.
  • Work closely with the regional and HQ Marketing teams to localize national campaigns and product launches.
  • Identify and cultivate local brand ambassadors, running leaders, and athlete advocates.
  • Act as the in-market expert on what resonates locally – delivering insights on trends, competitor activity, and community needs.
  • Create compelling, local-first social media content (in partnership with the corporate Loyalty, PR, and Event Marketing teams) to promote events, tell community stories, and spotlight store experiences.
  • Own email outreach and local event promotion strategies with a focus on conversion and attendance through work with the corporate Customer Relationship Management (CRM) team.
  • Gather and share content (photos, testimonials, short videos) that reflect the vibrancy of our community and store culture.
  • Support store staff in delivering premium shopping experiences – specifically during event-related traffic.
  • Educate the store staff on upcoming events and campaigns to be able to effectively communicate with customers.
  • Collaborate with store leadership to measure event ROI and customer acquisition.
