About The Position

The Senior Facilities Project Manager plays a critical role in delivering capital construction and deferred maintenance projects that shape and sustain UNLV’s physical environment. This position reports to the Associate Vice President of Facilities Management and supports all Facilities Management (FM) projects related to design, construction, renovation, and maintenance of campus infrastructure, buildings, systems, common areas, parking facilities, and grounds. Projects are managed from concept through completion, ensuring alignment with the university’s Capital and Deferred Maintenance plans. The role requires close collaboration with FM trade experts and grounds staff, engineering staff, senior leadership, campus stakeholders, consultants, and contractors to achieve successful project outcomes. The Senior Facilities Project Manager provides leadership on large and complex projects, typically valued between $100,000 and $10,000,000, and offers supervisory oversight to junior project management staff. They contribute and support in long-term strategic planning and budgeting by collaborating with Facilities Management and Business Affairs leadership. They also ensure that projects comply with state requirements and university standards in delivering successful construction and maintenance outcomes. Key responsibilities include developing and overseeing feasibility studies, project scopes, schedules, and budgets; preparing and reviewing RFQs, bids, and contracts; managing external design, engineering, and construction partners; monitoring contract compliance; reviewing and approving change orders, RFIs, and invoices; and ensuring projects are completed safely, reliably, on time, and within budget.

Requirements

  • This position requires a Bachelor's degree in Architecture, Civil, Electrical, Mechanical or Structural Engineering; Construction or Project Management, Facilities Management, or a related field. from an accredited college or university as recognized by the United States Department of Education and/or the Council on Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA) and a minimum of 10 years of progressively responsible construction project management experience in design, construction, or facilities management, preferably in a large institutional or commercial environment.
  • Additionally, candidates should have demonstrated experience managing large and complex capital construction projects above $5M.
  • Credentials must be obtained prior to the employment start date.

Responsibilities

  • Leadership: Supervise and mentor lower-level project management staff to ensure quality, consistency, and compliance across the project portfolio.
  • Project Oversight: Manage capital construction, deferred maintenance, and planning initiatives to align with FM’s maintenance needs and other long-term plans.
  • Construction Management: Conduct site visits, enforce contract compliance, manage budgets, schedules, and oversee project closeout activities. Lead meetings, develop project scopes, and resolve conflicts to ensure successful project outcomes.
  • Contract and Vendor Management: Oversee consultant and contractor selection, procurement, and contract negotiation in coordination with Purchasing.
  • Prevailing Wage Compliance: Serve as FM’s designated prevailing wage coordinator, ensuring documentation accuracy, audit readiness, and compliance with state requirements.
  • Continuous Improvement: Track and analyze project performance metrics (budget, schedule, change orders) to support planning, reporting, and process improvements. Align with FM’s work order tracking and accounting systems.
  • Stakeholder Engagement: Collaborate with FM staff, Planning and Construction staff, faculty, leadership, and external agencies.
