About The Position

The Senior Project Accountant reports to the CFO and is responsible for supporting the financial performance of EKI’s project portfolio through accurate project accounting, financial reporting, and analysis. This role contributes to EKI’s success by ensuring the integrity of project financial data and partnering with project teams to support informed decision-making.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance
  • Minimum of five (5) years of progressive experience in project accounting, with a strong preference for experience in the AEC consulting industry
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively, both written and verbally, with project managers, engineers, and external clients
  • Strong analytical and quantitative skills with the ability to interpret complex financial and project data
  • Exceptional attention to detail with a consistent track record of accuracy and reliability
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel and experience with financial reporting and analysis tools
  • Extensive hands-on experience with Deltek Ajera or comparable project-based accounting systems
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to communicate effectively across project teams and organizational levels
  • Proven ability to manage multiple priorities, remain highly organized, work independently, and collaborate effectively in a project-driven environment
  • Demonstrates sound judgment, accountability, and a high level of ownership over work product
  • Professional demeanor with a proactive, solution-oriented approach to work
  • Valid driver’s license and ability to travel locally as required for project or office needs
  • Must be able to work in a fast-paced environment with high-volume workload and frequent short deadlines
  • Must be able to work remaining in a stationary position, often standing or sitting for prolonged periods
  • Must be able to communicate with others to exchange information
  • Must be able to assess the accuracy, neatness and thoroughness of the work assigned
  • Must be able to travel occasionally, possibly overnight for team/company meetings up to 2% of the time

Responsibilities

  • Manage project accounting activities across multiple active projects, including setup, maintenance, and closeout
  • Prepare and review project WIP schedules, revenue recognition, and percent-complete calculations
  • Partner with Project Managers to support accurate project forecasting, budgeting, and financial decision-making
  • Review and analyze project costs, labor, and billing to ensure accuracy and compliance with contract terms
  • Prepare and review project invoices, including AIA and time-and-materials billing
  • Monitor and assist with the resolution of outstanding WIP, accounts receivable, and billing variances
  • Support month-end close activities related to project accounting and financial reporting
  • Maintain strong internal controls and ensure adherence to accounting policies and procedures
  • Provide guidance and informal leadership to junior accounting or billing staff as needed
  • Other duties as required
