Senior Project Accountant
About The Position
We’re seeking a Senior Project Accountant to independently manage project accounting for architectural and integrated design-build projects. This role partners closely with Project Managers and leadership to ensure accurate billing, strong cash flow, and proactive financial risk management. Individuals at this level should have satisfactorily managed jobs large in size and scope and are capable of handling multiple jobs with varying requirements. Individual at this level may exercise direction and/or have some supervisory responsibility over receptionist/administrative assistant or Project / Design Accountants.
Requirements
- 8+ years of project or cost accounting experience (AEC or professional services preferred)
- Associate’s degree in Accounting, Business, or equivalent experience
- Strong GAAP knowledge and understanding of project budget–cost–billing relationships
- Advanced Excel skills (VLOOKUP, Pivot Tables, Power BI)
- Knowledge of AIA contracts and A&E fee structures
- Ability to manage multiple projects with strong attention to detail
- Demonstrated ability to solve complex problems and think strategically
Responsibilities
- Manage full-cycle project accounting: billing, AR, cash flow, job cost, AP, and consultant/subcontract finances
- Partner with Project Managers on consultant task orders, change orders, budgets, and scope changes
- Review and analyze WIP to identify and mitigate risks to project profitability
- Prepare monthly project financial reports for PMs and leadership
- Manage budgets for design and integrated projects
- Support internal and external audits
