About The Position

The Senior Project Accountant reports to the Accounting Manager and is responsible for managing all aspects of project accounting and invoicing to ensure accurate, consistent billing. This role reviews project budgets, prepares financial reports, and provides project managers with timely, accurate financial data to support decision-making. The Senior Project Accountant also supports month-end close activities, financial reporting, audit preparation, execution of internal controls, and the implementation of accounting best practices. The ideal candidate demonstrates strong analytical skills and the ability to collaborate effectively across accounting, finance, and project teams.

Requirements

  • Proficiency in ERP/accounting systems; Microsoft Dynamics experience is a plus
  • Advanced proficiency in general ledger management, job costing, journal entries, and account reconciliations
  • Extensive experience with project invoicing and billing
  • Strong ability to collaborate with multiple stakeholders, including project managers
  • Ability to analyze financial data for forecasting and projections
  • Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills
  • Strong organizational skills with exceptional attention to detail
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment
  • Thorough knowledge of job-related laws and regulations
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and job-specific software
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance (or equivalent work experience)
  • 5+ years of experience as a Project Accountant or in a similar role

Nice To Haves

  • Prior experience in public company accounting is a plus
  • Project-based accounting experience or managing multiple concurrent projects is a plus
  • CPA, CMA, or other accounting certification preferred, but not required

Responsibilities

  • Train and mentor Junior and/or Staff Accountants
  • Provide project managers and clients with timely financial reports, budgets, and project forecasts
  • Prepare and understand Percentage of Completion (POC) processes and related journal entries
  • Review budgets for multiple projects and monitor job cost trends
  • Support Project Managers with Cost-to-Complete (CTC) processes
  • Analyze financial data for projections and forecasting
  • Update contracts per client requirements and report associated budget amendments
  • Execute effective internal controls to ensure financial data integrity and regulatory compliance
  • Support month-end close and audit preparation activities
  • Perform ad hoc analysis and special projects as needed
  • Provide general accounting support to team members
  • Perform other related duties as assigned
