The Department of Emergency Management develops and operates an integrated Emergency Management Program and Emergency Operations Plan to provide sustainable quality and ethical care to patients in any reasonably foreseeable environment or circumstance. This department establishes and maintains an effective response to and recovery from disasters - internal and external - as well as large scale emergencies that impact our environment of care. The goal is to minimize risk to patients, visitors, and caregivers through proper planning in mitigation, prevention, protection, response, and recovery. A caregiver in this position works at Akron General, 8:00am-5:00pm EST, with on-call requirements.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Emergency Management, Business Administration, Healthcare Administration or related field.
  • Minimum five years of relevant experience including previous experience leading large projects
  • Knowledge of HICS, NIMS, NDMS and county/regional/state Emergency Operations Plans.

Nice To Haves

  • Master's degree in emergency management, healthcare or business preferred
  • Experience leading teams or managing people.
  • Experience in healthcare-related emergency preparedness, safety, and/or regulatory compliance preferred.
  • ICS (Incident Command System) 100, 200, 300, 400, 700 and 800 preferred
  • Certified Healthcare Emergency Professional (CHEP) and Incident Command System (ICS) Curricula, Train the Trainer preferred
  • Hospital Emergency Response Team (HERT) instructor through FEMA preferred
  • Certified Emergency Manager (CEM) from IEAM or State Certified Emergency Manager preferred
  • FEMA Advanced Professional Series (APS) preferred
  • Must possess proficiency with basic computer skills (e.g. Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint preferred).

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate compliance with Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) and Joint Commission Emergency Management standards; establish priorities, conduct annual reviews and revisions; develop preparedness programs.
  • Help develop Emergency Management programs
  • Assist in the development of annual budgets.
  • Partner with Committees, community emergency services, government agencies and businesses for community-wide planning.
  • Collaborate with Protective Services on care and emergency issues, facilitates or leads emergency management task forces, represents the department on Committees or teams.
  • Ensure compliance with enterprise initiatives and spending plans. Implements emergency management plans and goals.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of NIMS and HICS. Ensures compliance with regulations, provides training to maintain emergency preparedness and maintain compliance with National Incident Management System (NIMS) requirements.
  • Measure performance against established safety standards, maintains standards of compliance documentation.
  • Provide communication on emergency management and disasters issues.
  • Participates in professional, educational, and community activities.
  • Performs all duties of the Program Manager, Emergency Management position.
