About The Position

Under the direction of the Van Otterloo-Weatherbie Director of the Center for Netherlandish Art (CNA), the Senior Program Manager will work with external stakeholders and internal staff across several departments to lead, develop, and implement educational programs and special events including a residential fellowship program and summer institute; forge and direct partnerships with outside organizations and institutions in the United States, and elsewhere; establish protocols and conduct evaluation of CNA programs; lead the CNA’s communication strategy, and participate in fundraising activities and donor relations.  The Senior Program Manager will help define and support overall CNA strategy and partnership development and stewardship, in collaboration with the Director.  The successful candidate will thrive in a fast-paced environment with varied projects and responsibilities, requiring active collaboration with internal staff and clear, professional communication with donors and other external stakeholders.

Requirements

  • M.A. with a specialization in an area of 15th-18th century Netherlandish art required. Ph.D. strongly preferred.
  • Minimum of 3-5 years Curatorial, Education, or Academic experience, including work with varied constituents such as donors, museum staff, students, and academic faculty.
  • Experience teaching Netherlandish art at the college level.
  • Strong organizational abilities, attention to detail, and follow-through skills.
  • Excellent writing and management skills.
  • Professional demeanor and interpersonal skills.
  • Proven ability to handle multiple tasks fluidly and efficiently in a demanding, fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to handle sensitive and confidential materials with professionalism.
  • Demonstrated ability to think strategically, solve problems, make decisions, work independently and as a team player.

Nice To Haves

  • Ph.D. strongly preferred.
  • Experience in event planning preferred.
  • Experience working with Dutch and/or Flemish museums and universities strongly preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Leads a residency fellowship program in Netherlandish art.
  • Leads a biennial summer research institute for PhD students and emerging professionals in pre-modern Netherlandish art, in partnership with the Rijksmuseum, RKD – National Institute of Art History, and Harvard Art Museums.
  • Leads communications strategy for the CNA
  • Alongside the CNA director, works with university and museum partners as well as internal staff across the institution to develop educational and scholarly programs and events that relate to the mission of the CNA including symposia, lectures, and seminars for a range of audiences.
  • Help define and support overall CNA strategy and partnership development and stewardship, in collaboration with Director.
  • Participate in fundraising, especially for programs she leads, as assigned.
  • Make formal presentations, give conference papers, and write material for publication to advance the profile of the CNA, and the Senior Program Manager.
  • Represent the CNA during events and at panels and conferences to share opportunities and best practices in the field.
  • Represent the CNA during public-facing opportunities.
  • Perform other related duties as required or directed.
