About The Position

Raytheon, an aerospace and defense company with over 100 years of experience, is seeking an experienced Senior Principal Mechanical Engineer for the Hardware Engineering, Shipboard Effectors AUR Department in Tucson, AZ. This role supports the Standard Missile 2 (SM-2) IIICU / SM-6 IU program. The successful candidate will serve as a Mechanical Cross Product Team Lead (CPTL), responsible for overseeing the technical execution of a mechanical engineering team for the IU/IIICU EMD program. This leadership position involves close collaboration with the Hardware IPTL, Office of the Chief Engineer, and Program Managers to ensure engineering requirements are met, risks are managed, and schedules/budgets are adhered to. The CPTL will maintain and update Technical Data Packages, support preliminary and detailed design cycles, and allocate resources across product teams. Key responsibilities include ensuring quality peer reviews, serving on the CCB panel, acting as the mechanical architect for the POM design, providing technical input during design verification testing, leading failure investigations, and offering mentorship and coaching to the mechanical team.

Requirements

  • Typically requires a degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) and a minimum of 10 years of prior relevant experience
  • Experience in Earn Value Management System (EMVS) and Cost Account Management (CAM)
  • Experience with developing EACs
  • Project Management experience
  • Prior IPTL, CPTL or Mechanical lead experience
  • Must be willing to travel to suppliers and other Raytheon facilities as needed
  • Active DoD issued security clearance prior to the start date
  • U.S. citizenship is required as only U.S. citizens are eligible for a security clearance
  • Understand all aspects of mechanical design, from CCA level through All Up Round (AUR)

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with hardware integration and test, root cause and corrective action and failure investigation principles are strongly desired

Responsibilities

  • Assist in the management of the Responsible Engineering Authorities supporting SM-2 IIICU / SM-6 IU
  • Establish and maintain product vision, strategy, and goals to align with multiple contracts and facilitate production line conflict resolution with respect to schedule impacts
  • Lead teams of multi-disciplined engineers by identifying priorities to ensure on time deliveries to the Customers
  • Establish open and effective communication with team members, ensuring team cross training, mentoring and growth opportunities
  • Ensure technical integrity and engineering execution of the Hardware to meet cost, schedule, and technical requirements
  • Regularly interface with program and portfolio leads as well as Customers
  • Support proposal efforts by determining technical scope and basis of estimates
  • Report business metrics to both the program and functional leadership including Estimates at Completion (EAC)
  • Regular review of program status including tracking and review by both Engineering and Program Leadership
  • Actively work to identify, manage, and mitigate risks or capture opportunities
  • Travel as necessary to support the Program
  • Oversee the technical execution of a mechanical team of engineers supporting the IU/IIICU EMD program
  • Work closely with the Hardware IPTL, Office of the Chief Engineer and Program Managers to ensure that engineering requirements are defined, risks are managed, and schedules/budgets are met
  • Ensure Technical Data Packages are maintained and updated as necessary
  • Support preliminary and detailed design cycles for the EMD program
  • Be involved across the product teams and allocate resources as needed to align with program priorities
  • Ensure quality peer reviews for all mechanical work production and be a member of the CCB panel
  • Be the mechanical architect for the POM design as the program transitions from POD to POM after design verification testing
  • Be cognizant of the program test philosophy and test events as they would provide technical input and review during the design verification phase
  • Be part of any failure investigations and be able to provide mitigation strategies for test failures
  • Provide mentorship and coaching to the entire mechanical team and provide program priorities and strategies to the mechanical team
