About The Position

Pacific Fusion is looking for a Senior Precision Machinist to join our growing target fabrication team. You will work with a diverse group of talented engineers and physicists to fabricate precision components of engineering systems for use on Pacific Fusion’s pulsed power fusion system. You will be responsible for creating critical components of engineering assemblies, with involvement in all stages from initial design to fabrication and final inspection.

Requirements

  • Experience with single point diamond turning and 5-axis CNC machining of millimeter scale parts
  • Extensive CNC programming background with software such as Mastercam to analyze part models, design components, and program machining equipment
  • Strong understanding of standard machine shop inspection tools as well as optical instruments such as a measuring microscope, white light interferometer, and laser micrometer
  • Proficiency in reading engineering drawings with and good understanding of GD&T
  • Highly organized with ability to track multiple production processes and product lines concurrently
  • Excellent communication skills to collaborate with a team of scientists, engineers, and technicians

Nice To Haves

  • Experience selecting equipment for initial machine shop set up including tools, inspection equipment, fixturing, and all other necessary supplies to run an efficient manufacturing shop
  • Familiarity with a wide variety of CNC machine control platforms such as FANUC, Haas, Okuma, and Heidenhain
  • Experience with design and implementation of vacuum fixturing for machining and workholding
  • Experience diamond turning large (>1ft diameter) optics or metal forms

Responsibilities

  • Machine high precision components to single micron tolerances
  • Operate a wide variety of machining tools from manual lathes and mills to CNC single point diamond turning lathes and 5-axis mills
  • Program CNC equipment using G-Code, macro, or parametric programming
  • Utilize CAD/CAM software such as Mastercam to analyze part models and program machining equipment
  • Inspect and measure components with tight tolerances to ensure specifications are met using a variety of optical inspection tools
  • Develop process to fabricate components including fixturing and machining strategies
  • Select equipment needed for a new production machining and inspection environment
  • Work closely with a team of engineers and designers to guide part design for manufacturability
