The Sunita Jain Anti Trafficking Policy Initiative (SJI), based at Loyola Law School (LLS), advances policy grounded in survivor experience, rigorous research, and a commitment to anti racism, equity, and inclusion. Building on LLS’s long history of system transformation and best practice representation of trafficking survivors, SJI develops innovative policy solutions that address the root causes of human trafficking, including the systemic subordination of poor communities of color and the intersecting impacts of gender, gender identity, sexuality, disability, national origin, religion, and immigration status. As the first initiative of its kind housed within a law school dedicated to social justice, SJI works to expand survivors’ access to self determination and to shape the next generation of advocates advancing meaningful anti trafficking reform at the local, state, and national levels. Primary Responsibilities/Accountabilities: The Sunita Jain Senior Jain Policy Counsel will be supervised by the Sunita Jain Policy Director and work closely with the Policy Associate to collaborate with LLS faculty, staff and students, to develop anti-trafficking local, state and national policy strategies, that promote survivor-informed and evidence-based public health and community-based alternatives to the dominant carceral approach human trafficking which often retraumatizes survivors, especially survivors with their own criminality. The Senior Policy Counsel will also supervise law students enrolled in courses and practicum associated with the Sunita Jain Initiative on legislative lawyering skills in the anti-trafficking context.
