About The Position

The Mechanical Project Engineer reports to a Managing Director and is responsible for everyday project activities, quality control and project delivery, and the design of plumbing and fire protection systems for commercial and/or retail buildings.

Requirements

  • Knowledge of building life safety, plumbing and fire codes including NFPA codes and standards, and ICC codes and standards.
  • Strong and versatile building plumbing and fire protection design and presentation skills.
  • Proficiency with current versions of Revit, AutoCAD, Bluebeam, MS Word, and MS Excel.
  • Sound knowledge and understanding of the project development process within the commercial and retail marketplace, including construction.
  • Ability to work both independently and in a collaborative team environment.
  • Highly organized, detail-driven, and conscientious.
  • 10+ years of experience.
  • Professional Certification is required.

Responsibilities

  • Performs engineering duties in planning and designing Plumbing and Fire Protection systems in various building design projects.
  • Assists in the various design elements to complete a project, system, component, or system with other team members with clear and specified objectives involving conventional types of plans, surveys, investigations, structures, and/or equipment.
  • Assists in preparing complete project documentation including plans, specifications, due diligence reports, etc.
  • Plans and coordinates detailed aspects of engineering work; works on multiple projects of moderate size or portions of major projects using time efficiently to stay within budget and deliver on time.
  • Interacts and collaborates with clients, officials, contractors, and other project team members.
  • Ability to work cooperatively and collaboratively with all levels of employees, management, and clients.
  • Correct and update drawings and assist the project team and other staff members as required.
  • Ensures that company technical policies and procedures are practiced during the execution of projects for clients.
  • Delegation of work tasks and collaboration with subordinate staff, monitoring and reviewing delegated work for accuracy.
  • Assists Project Managers in coordinating project designs with other disciplines, including attendance at project meetings.
  • Performs specific engineering studies and design analyses and assists Project Managers in establishing budgets, cost estimates, and project schedules.
  • Reviews shop drawings, record changes, and communicates directly with suppliers, contractors, and client representatives as required.
  • Performs on-site inspections as required.
  • Select and schedule equipment for plumbing systems, pressurized gas systems, and fire protection systems.
  • Layout pressurized water, waste, vent and gas riser diagrams on drawings.
  • Coordinate with other disciplines for plumbing and fire protection installations.
  • Prepare plumbing or fire protection drawings in collaboration with other designers or drafters and develop specifications.
  • Coordinate designs with vendor-supplied equipment.
  • Prepare equipment layouts and general arrangements.
