About The Position

The purpose of this position is to provide planning services for current and long range planning projects. Essential Duties and Responsibilities: Provides development assistance and review by interpreting zoning and codes, advising developers on appropriate measures and processes, coordinating with reviewing departments to ensure compliance with development ordinance, issuing development permits, and conducting zoning inspections. Creates and implements long-range plans and participates in a variety of meetings to gather and disseminate information related to applicable planning projects or programs. Advises consultants on various issues related to projects and reviews planning documents to ensure adherence to applicable guidelines, standards, and provisions. Prepares a variety of reports for various Federal, State, and local agencies by gathering, preparing, editing, and circulating information; drafts resolutions, ordinances, reports, memorandums, and other professional documents to elected officials, administration, business leaders, internal staff, and members of the community. Participates in planning projects by preparing maps, communicating with developers and investors, participating in community input sessions, and serving as main point of contact for development projects. Prepares a variety of marketing materials, including newsletters, advertisements, brochures, and other related materials. Provides excellent customer service; handles complaints and grievance from the public. Provides feedback on budget development. Provides assistance with Certified Local Government (CLG) requirements relative to the Historic Preservation Commission. Participates in the training of Planning and Zoning, Historic Preservation and Board of Adjustment commissioners. Supplemental Functions: Performs other similar duties as required.

  • Valid North Carolina Driver’s License
  • Operating a computer and applicable software applications, specifically GIS
  • Assisting in the preparation of comprehensive plans and studies
  • Conducting research; compiling and analyzing data; preparing reports
  • Composing technical reports
  • Project Management
  • Preparing a variety of correspondence for effective communication
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
