About The Position

Boston University Information Services & Technology (IS&T) is seeking applicants with diverse skills and experiences to join our innovative and inclusive community. You will join as a Senior PeopleSoft Architect where you will lead the strategic evolution of Boston University's Student Information Systems (SIS) and Auxiliary Services. You will ensure these mission critical systems are scalable, secure, and aligned with long-term institutional goals. You will also guide major architectural initiatives, including modernization efforts, cloud integration, and the adoption of automation and AI across SIS platforms. As part of the Information Services & Technology (IS&T) division, you will report to the Director of Enterprise Architecture and work closely with technical leaders, developers, project teams, and university stakeholders in a hybrid Boston-based environment. You will: Lead the development and execution of architectural processes aligned with enterprise architecture standards. Define and maintain architectural artifacts for current, transitional, and future SIS and auxiliary system states. Drive long term architectural strategy for student and auxiliary services in partnership with IS&T leadership. Guide the strategy and implementation of automation tools and AI within SIS environments. Evaluate emerging technologies and develop reusable frameworks, design patterns, and reference architectures. Assist with establishing developer guidelines and prototypes to support scalable and consistent development practices. Serve as the architectural lead on complex SIS and auxiliary system projects, ensuring scalability, compliance, and operational supportability. Oversee architecture reviews, solution documentation, and updates to system artifacts. Provide expert consultation on incidents, service requests, upgrades, patches, and enhancements. Support continuous service improvement initiatives to ensure system reliability and performance. Coach and mentor technical staff across IS&T. Stay current with SIS technologies through professional organizations, user groups, and formal training.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related field or equivalent work experience.
  • 10+ years of progressive IT experience with deep expertise in enterprise architecture and system design.
  • Extensive experience working with PeopleSoft, Student Information Systems, and large scale enterprise platforms.
  • Background supporting complex, mission critical systems in hybrid cloud and on premise environments.
  • Advanced proficiency in application, data, security, and technology architecture.
  • Strong expertise in PeopleSoft, PeopleTools, and database architecture.
  • Understanding of non functional requirements such as performance, reliability, scalability, availability, privacy, and compliance.
  • Knowledge of cloud computing models (iPaaS, IaaS, SaaS, PaaS) and platforms such as OCI, AWS, and Azure.
  • Experience with integration technologies including SOA, ESB, APIs, REST, SOAP, and microservices as well as PeopleSofts Integration Broker
  • Knowledge of SQL, Java, C#, .NET, XML, and JSON.
  • Familiarity with agile methodologies and ITIL based service management.
  • Ability to estimate architecture and development effort and cost.

Nice To Haves

  • Knowledge of architecture frameworks (TOGAF, Zachman, FEA) and modeling standards (UML, BPMN).
  • Enterprise architecture certifications (e.g., TOGAF) or cloud certifications (AWS, Azure, OCI) are beneficial but not required.
