About The Position

This position will be a key contributor in the Integrated Resource Planning (IRP) organization and will be responsible for leading the development of a cohesive and comprehensive linkage between IRP strategy and regulatory compliance, ensuring coordination across IRPs, Certificate of Public Convenience and Necessity (CPCN) filings, Siting Act applications, Avoided Cost proceedings and other resource planning initiatives in North Carolina and South Carolina.This position will be a member of the Carolinas IRP team, supporting the development of the North Carolina Carbon Plan Integrated Resource Plan (CPIRP), the South Carolina IRP, and South Carolina IRP Updates. Additionally, the position will support regulatory filings related to potential new generation projects including gas, nuclear, renewables, and storage technologies. The role will support resource planning subject matter expert(s) in North Carolina and South Carolina regulatory proceedings and will support the creation of subject matter expert testimony and exhibits. The position will lead data request response activities related to regulatory proceedings that are often highly complex and technical in nature. This position requires maintaining awareness of emerging industry issues, proactively assessing their potential impact on Duke Energy's resource planning, and recommending appropriate next steps. The successful candidate must have a functional understanding of utility generation and system planning. They must be able to listen attentively and communicate effectively both orally and in writing at a subject matter expert level while presenting ideas and concepts clearly to diverse audiences.

Requirements

  • Bachelors degree Business, Accounting, Economics, Business Administration or Other Related Degree
  • In addition to required degree, five (5) years related work experience
  • Bachelors degree Business, Accounting, Economics, Business Administration or Other Related Degree
  • In addition to required degree, seven (7) years related work experience

  • Experience in generation, fuels, transmission, forecasting or other department directly related to resource planning.
  • Expertise in regulated utility financial operations including rate making, capital and cost recovery
  • Industry experience in the areas of regulatory affairs, resource planning, legal or operations.
  • Experience working with state and federal regulatory agencies
  • Expertise in analytical, problem solving and financial evaluation skills
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Some knowledge of production cost modeling and/or expansion plan modeling for vertically integrated utilities

Responsibilities

  • Leads coordination of regulatory activities for resource planning proceedings, including witness testimony and exhibit development, witness preparation, data request response management, and preparation of complex regulatory filings across North Carolina and South Carolina jurisdictions.
  • Translates complex modeling analyses and technical data into clear, accessible presentations and documentation for regulatory commissions, intervenors, and stakeholders to support efficient development of IRPs, CPCNs, and other resource planning filings.
  • Participates in stakeholder engagement activities, effectively representing Duke Energy's resource planning positions and interests while maintaining professional relationships with regulatory bodies, intervenors, and industry participants.
  • Monitors, analyzes, and reports on emerging industry issues including regulatory policy changes, technology developments, market trends, and legislative initiatives that may impact resource planning strategies, providing regular briefings and written summaries to leadership and cross-functional teams.
  • Manages and maintains the comprehensive regulatory calendar for all IRP-related proceedings across North Carolina and South Carolina, tracking key milestones, filing deadlines, hearing dates, and data request response timelines to ensure timely compliance and coordination across all stakeholders.
