About The Position

The Senior Occupational Health Specialist is responsible for anticipating, recognizing, evaluating, and controlling occupational health hazards in a manufacturing environment. This role serves as the site technical lead for industrial hygiene programs, exposure monitoring, ergonomics assessments, and health-related regulatory compliance. The Sr. Specialist partners with operations, engineering, maintenance, and leadership to reduce workplace health risks, strengthen hazard controls, and promote a proactive safety culture. This role ensures compliance with applicable OSHA, state, and corporate standards while supporting continuous improvement initiatives across production and administrative areas.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Safety, Industrial Hygiene, Environmental Health, Public Health, Engineering, or related field required
  • 7+ years of experience in industrial hygiene, occupational health, or safety within a manufacturing or highly regulated industrial environment
  • Direct experience conducting exposure monitoring and ergonomic risk assessments
  • Experience working with OSHA regulations and state/local compliance requirements
  • Strong knowledge of OSHA health standards and industrial hygiene principles
  • Experience interpreting exposure data and technical reports
  • Ability to analyze and evaluate technical data, sampling results, and risk assessments
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to work independently and influence cross-functional teams
  • MS Office Suite proficiency
  • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills
  • Ability to work flexible hours as needed to support production operations
  • Comfortable working in a team-based, manufacturing environment
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without sponsorship.
  • Must be able to properly and regularly utilize the following PPE for a period of up to 12 hours: Safety glasses Steel-toed shoes Nitrile gloves Ear protection Cleanroom suit
  • Must be able to perform the following activities repeatedly for periods of up to 12 hours: Lift, push, and pull materials or equipment Stoop, twist, and bend Reach overhead Sit and/or stand for extended periods Use hands and fingers to operate tools, equipment, and computer systems

Nice To Haves

  • Master’s degree preferred
  • Professional certifications such as CIH, CSP, ASP, or CHMM preferred
  • May be required to respond to after-hours operational issues or emergency events in support of facility infrastructure, utilities systems, or safe plant operations.
  • Experience supporting ISO-based management systems preferred

Responsibilities

  • Lead site industrial hygiene programs including identification, evaluation, and control of chemical, particulate, noise, and physical exposure hazards
  • Ownership of written occupational health programs (Respiratory Protection, Hearing Conservation, Hazard Communication, etc.)
  • Development of exposure monitoring strategy
  • Regulatory inspection and compliance interface responsibility
  • Establishment of occupational health systems appropriate to our operational phase
  • Development of health-related KPIs and reporting to leadership
  • Conduct air monitoring, noise dosimetry, and other industrial hygiene sampling activities
  • Analyze exposure data and recommend engineering, administrative, or PPE controls
  • Maintain exposure records and ensure compliance with OSHA and applicable state requirements
  • Conduct ergonomic risk assessments for production and administrative roles
  • Evaluate workstation design, manual handling tasks, and repetitive motion exposures
  • Develop and recommend ergonomic improvements and engineering controls
  • Partner with engineering and operations during new equipment installation to incorporate ergonomic best practices
  • Track ergonomic-related incidents and drive corrective actions
  • Ensure compliance with OSHA health-related standards including but not limited to: Hazard Communication Respiratory Protection Hearing Conservation Chemical Exposure Limits PPE Standards
  • Conduct routine health and safety inspections and audits
  • Participate in incident investigations involving occupational illness, chemical exposure, or ergonomic injury
  • Maintain required health and industrial hygiene documentation and reporting
  • Conduct daily or routine line walks to identify at-risk behaviors, unsafe conditions, or health hazards
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to implement corrective and preventive actions
  • Support Job Hazard Analyses (JHA) and risk assessments
  • Evaluate new processes, chemicals, and materials for health impact prior to implementation
  • Deliver training on industrial hygiene topics, hazard communication, ergonomics, PPE, and health-related compliance requirements
  • Support new hire orientation and contractor safety training
  • Promote employee engagement in health and safety initiatives
  • Partner with leadership to strengthen site EH&S culture
  • Participate in emergency response planning and drills
  • Provide technical guidance during chemical spills, releases, or occupational exposure incidents
  • Assist with post-incident analysis and documentation
  • Support ISO 14001 and ISO 45001 initiatives as applicable
  • Track and report health-related KPIs and trends
  • This position supports essential manufacturing operations and may require working day or night shifts, weekends, holidays, overtime, and reporting to work during emergency situations, inclement weather events, or other operational disruptions when it is safe to do so.
