A Senior Network Engineer has 7+ years of experience which could involve the leading or management of a team having proficiency and understanding of various types of networking hardware. They have a proficiency and understanding of various types of networking hardware, they are responsible for overseeing an organization’s network infrastructure to ensure proper maintenance and security compliance with applicable regulatory audit requirements. They design, upgrade, and implement, maintaining the network infrastructure on-prem or cloud which includes but not limited to firewalls, routers, switches, VPN appliances, and other physical networking hardware for the organization. Installing and configuring network equipment to update or fix hardware issues. Their duties include working with other IT staff and company employees to identify network or computer system needs, establishing network or firewall-related changes for legitimate business traffic or cybersecurity related reasons and overseeing the installation of new infrastructure hardware or software. Primary Job Functions: Design and maintain secure, highly available network architectures across on-prem and cloud environments. Support core data center and office networking, routing, switching, access points, firewalls, VPNs, WAN, SD-WAN, and SASE. Design and manage cloud networking components, including virtual networks, routing, gateways, load balancers, and private connectivity. Implement and maintain secure hybrid connectivity between on-premises and cloud platforms. Deep understanding of TCP/IP, routing (BGP, OSPF), DNS, DHCP. Support multi-region and high-availability cloud network designs. Enforce network security controls such as segmentation, firewall policy, and secure remote access following least-privilege principles. Establish and enforce security policies, configuring firewalls, managing access, and planning disaster recovery. Monitor, troubleshoot, and resolve complex network issues conducting tests, diagnosing issues (lag, outages), optimizing performance, and automating tasks participating in incident response and on-call support. Support regulatory, audit, and compliance requirements (e.g., SOC, PCI, state DOI, NYDFS) through proper controls, documentation, and evidence. Maintain accurate network diagrams, standards, and operational documentation. Collaborate closely with security, cloud, infrastructure, and application teams. Ability to lead initiatives coordinating with vendors, working independently with minimal supervision. Identifying new technologies to improve reliability ensuring network resilience.
