About The Position

Under general direction, the Senior Medical Records Specialist is responsible for the organization, maintenance, and control of medical records in compliance with federal, state, and NASA requirements. This role will ensure proper processing, release, and tracking of patient information while supporting scheduling and data reporting functions of the clinic. Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED
  • Two years of academic training in medical records management and coding
  • Proficiency in computer use, data entry, and healthcare software
  • Strong communication and customer service skills
  • Familiarity with ICD coding, healthcare data systems, and medical terminology

Nice To Haves

  • Associate or bachelor’s degree in a health, administrative, or related field
  • Current CPR certification
  • Familiarity with medical readiness standards and procedures of the Navy Medical Department, Military Sealift Command, and Office of Personnel Management (OPM) for civil service employees

Responsibilities

  • Maintain all medical records in accordance with applicable retention schedules and regulations
  • Manage the release, tracking, and return of records; maintain suspense files
  • Schedule patient health exams and coordinate using relevant software systems
  • Ensure appropriate authorization is obtained for releasing records to outside agencies under Privacy Act requirements
  • Prepare reports to meet internal and external data reporting needs
  • Retrieve, file, and process medical records as needed for appointments, referrals, and administrative needs
  • Perform quality control reviews on records and record handling
  • Support all other duties as assigned
