About The Position

Primary function of position: Management of Product Engineering Function for the dV5 Viewer Job Description: Surgeons need to see clearly in order to heal their patients. Surgeons use the daVinci Surgical System for extended continuous duration under the intense stress of a surgical environment. Visual clarity and precise representation of the surgical field along with ease of use and optical comfort across the broad spectrum of surgeons are pillars of Intuitive’s vision products. The primary responsibility of this position is to manage a team of engineers working on sustaining engineering tasks for the 3D Surgical Viewer in the dV5 robotic-assisted surgery system. This is an interdisciplinary role where strategic project identification and existing project prioritization will be critical to success. An interconnected set of needs and desires from across the organization will need to be creatively juggled: improve the manufacturability of the current viewer design, reduce cost, simplify the supply chain, improve reliability, and incorporate user-facing improvements. Throughout all these activities, the core feature-set of the viewer must be preserved, which means staying proactive with respect to critical performance metrics such as: image brightness, contrast, image sharpness, resolution, white point, color gamut, etc. all while complying with relevant protocols (medical device development). Must stay abreast of industry developments in optical system components and their manufacture, performance, trade-offs, and prices. Will need to leverage this knowledge to effectively lead a team that will manage outside suppliers and will work to integrate new components into 3D Surgical Viewer of the dV5 surgical system. Must provide technical leadership and guidance to suppliers, in-person as needed (including global travel on potentially short notice), while ensuring suppliers know about and share in Intuitive’s mission. Suppliers should feel and understand Intuitive’s need for high quality and operational excellence. Strategic development of the supply chain must be a priority. Must treat suppliers and colleagues with empathy and respect at all times as a visible representative of the Intuitive brand.
