Senior Manager Platform Engineer, Workday - Functional (HCM/Finance) Do you love building and pioneering in the technology space? As part of a team that’s leading the next wave of disruption on a whole new scale, you will play an integral part in advancing Capital One’s Human Resource Technology, Finance Technology ecosystem and culture of technical excellence. You will champion automation of functional and technical processes and bring your expertise to drive innovative solutions. This Senior Manager will be supporting our Workday Platform & Data Governance Team, responsible for the shared architecture across Workday Human Capital Management (HCM) and Workday Financials (FIN). This leadership role touches a broad, horizontal understanding of the Workday platform and broader enterprise systems such as workforce management, Identity and access management, productivity tooling. You will act as the functional bridge between the HR and Finance organizations, ensuring that system configurations are cohesive and that the Foundation Data Model (FDM) remains aligned across all modules. Furthermore, you will serve as the functional authority on data quality, understanding how data enters the system, how it flows through internal business processes, and how it exits to downstream enterprise systems.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma, GED, or equivalent certification
  • At least 8 years of experience with Workday functional configuration
  • At least 4 years of experience in a technical leadership role overseeing strategic projects
  • At least 4 years of people management experience

Nice To Haves

  • 9+ years of experience with Workday functional configuration (Core HCM, Finance, Security, and Reporting)
  • 2+ years of experience configuring SSO with Workday using SAML 2.0 and integrating with enterprise identity providers.
  • Workday Pro Certification in HCM
  • Workday Pro Certification in Security
  • 1+ year of experience with Workday Financials security module

Responsibilities

  • Lead and develop a team of Workday functional analysts responsible for executing cross-domain, foundational, and high-complexity configuration.
  • Oversee the configuration and maintenance of intersectional platform elements, including cross-application Business Processes (BPs), intersection security groups, and custom organizations.
  • Ensure that any structural changes to the Foundation Data Model (e.g., new companies, cost centers, or custom worktags) initiated by Finance are properly mapped and accounted for within HCM condition rules, routing logic, and integrations.
  • Act as the central escalation point for configuration conflicts between the federated HR and Finance teams, making decisions based on overall platform stability and enterprise standards.
  • Maintain a comprehensive understanding of the enterprise data model. You must understand not only how data is structured inside Workday, but how functional configuration impacts downstream data warehouses, IAM systems, and other enterprise systems.
  • Design and implement functional safeguards to prevent bad data from entering the system at the source.
  • Develop and oversee routine operational reporting and audit processes to identify data anomalies between HR and Financial records
  • Partner directly with the Workday Technical Leader to ensure that the functional configuration supports scalable, clean data extracts. You will define the functional business rules that govern what data is sent to external systems
  • Manage the intake, impact analysis, testing, and deployment of Workday’s semi-annual feature releases across both HCM and Financial domains.
  • Enforce strict IT General Controls (ITGC) and SOX compliance standards for all configuration changes migrating from lower tenants into Production.
  • Direct the intake and prioritization of central platform requests, managing the team's sprint cycle to ensure timely delivery of configuration items.
