About The Position

Join our team as Senior Manager, Platform Architecture, where you'll play a pivotal role in pioneering a new post-sales technical function at Temporal. We are building the Platform Architecture organization to own the path from purchase to safe, scalable production for our customers. In this position, you'll build and scale this function globally, defining how we run customers in production consistently and ensuring clear ownership across Sales, Support, Services, and Engineering. You'll raise the bar for what "customer success" means in a reliability-first company, empowering you to substantially impact how Temporal grows. Requirements

  • 12+ years of professional experience in technical roles, with at least 5 years in leadership positions
  • Proven track record building and scaling high-performing technical teams
  • Deep understanding of distributed systems, workflow orchestration, and production operations
  • Experience defining and implementing customer success frameworks for technical products
  • Strong ability to establish metrics, processes, and operational standards that drive business outcomes
  • Demonstrated success partnering with Sales, Product, Engineering, and Support organizations
  • Excellent executive presence with the ability to engage with senior stakeholders and strategic accounts
  • Experience managing complex customer technical programs and driving production readiness initiatives
  • Track record of developing talent, building career frameworks, and creating high-trust team cultures
  • Strong analytical skills with experience using data to drive decisions and forecast capacity needs

Nice To Haves

  • Prior experience with Temporal or similar distributed systems platforms
  • Background in professional services, solutions architecture, or customer success engineering leadership
  • Experience building post-sales technical functions from the ground up
  • Knowledge of modern cloud platforms, Kubernetes, and infrastructure technologies
  • Track record of creating scalable enablement programs and training content
  • Experience in high-growth SaaS or developer tools companies

Responsibilities

  • Build and Lead the Platform Architecture Organization
  • Hire, coach, and develop a team of high-performing Platform Architects
  • Establish clear role boundaries, career paths, and operating standards
  • Set expectations for ownership, outcomes, and technical depth
  • Create a culture of accountability, rigor, and customer trust
  • Own Production Readiness as a Company Capability
  • Define and evolve Temporal's production readiness framework
  • Standardize activation, reliability, observability, and operational guardrails
  • Ensure first workflows reach production faster and more predictably
  • Reduce escalations to Engineering through prevention, not heroics
  • Drive Operational Excellence and Business Outcomes
  • Own metrics tied to time-to-production, GRR, NDR, expansion, and health
  • Forecast capacity and scale the team responsibly with the business
  • Ensure Platform Architects surface expansion signals tied to real usage
  • Partner with Growth AEs and Solution Architects to convert readiness into revenue
  • Partner Across the Company
  • Act as the executive technical counterpart to Sales, Support, Services, and Product
  • Collaborate with Product and Engineering to feed back real-world production patterns
  • Shape customer lifecycle programs and executive-facing engagements (QBRs, EBRs)
  • Serve as executive sponsor for key strategic accounts
  • Evolve the Function Over Time
  • Innovate on programs like Production Readiness Partnership
  • Influence training, certification, and partner enablement strategies
  • Ensure the Platform Architect role continues to scale without dilution
  • Build a function that becomes an industry benchmark
