About The Position

Under the general direction of the Finance Manager, the incumbent will be a key member of the Firm's finance/accounting department and will focus on ensuring we are prioritizing innovative fee arrangements, improving current billing practices and processes, and overseeing the Billing and Collections team. The manager/senior manager will work closely with other managers, directors, and attorneys to deliver solution-based approaches to often complicated billing; collections and pricing level work, while also supporting the day-to-day pricing needs of Axinn’s valued clients.

Requirements

  • BA/BS degree required (significant/directly related experience may be a suitable substitute for a degree)
  • Extensive related financial/pricing expertise, with prior law firm experience required
  • Strong analytical skills, along with various financial management tools experience
  • Demonstrated prior leadership and management experience
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Strong Microsoft Office skills – Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, along with other systems/tools that may be job specific
  • Excellent organizational skills with great attention to detail.
  • The ability to work independently but within a team environment.
  • Work well under pressure to meet tight deadlines while maintaining strong relationships with management and peers

Responsibilities

  • Manage the day to day client billing and collections process. This includes managing unbilled time and uncollected invoices and escalating the unresolved items to Firm management for timely resolution.
  • Liaise with offshore team for edits of pre-bills and submission of electronic invoices.
  • Ensure proper application of collected cash against outstanding invoices. Provide support to Firm Controller for resolving unapplied cash.
  • Provide guidance and support to the Firm's attorneys and billing coordinators on creative approaches to handling both – straightforward hourly rate as well as alternative fee arrangements and budget development for client matters
  • Work closely with the CFO and Marketing & Business Development team in the creation of client proposals and/or submissions and other client pricing requests
  • Stay connected to industry trends related to billing, pricing, etc..
  • Create, update, and maintain pricing models and make recommendations to Firm leadership
  • Train others within the Firm to understand billing needs/changes
  • Attend Practice Group meetings and meet with Practice Chairs to discuss financial goals related to billing
  • Oversee a manager who is directly responsible for the billing and conflicts team
  • Coordinate activities with other members of the Finance and Accounting team
  • Review and manage client billing/pricing requests, along with data requests for timekeepers assigned to the client’s matter(s)
  • Other duties as assigned including assistance with system upgrades and other technology based initiatives.
