About The Position

Overview: The Senior Manager – Global Tax will lead Vertex’s U.S. Income Tax function and play a critical role in ensuring accurate tax accounting, compliance, and risk management within a public company environment. This role is responsible for U.S. income tax accounting and compliance and serves as a key advisor to the business on tax-related matters. The position reports directly to the Senior Director – Global Tax and manages one direct report. This is a high-impact role suited for a seasoned tax professional who thrives in a fast-paced, evolving environment and brings both technical depth and leadership capability to the organization. Key Responsibilities: U.S. Income Tax Accounting & Reporting Oversee preparation and review of U.S. income tax provision calculations and consolidate results in accordance with ASC 740. Ensure accuracy, completeness, and timeliness of tax-related financial reporting in a public company environment. Oversee, maintain, develop internal controls impacting the income tax provision processes U.S. Income Tax Compliance Oversee U.S. federal and state income tax compliance filings and payments. Coordinate with internal and external stakeholders to ensure compliance obligations are met efficiently and accurately. Support R&D tax credit calculations. Tax Audits, Risk Management & Authorities Manage and respond to inquiries, audits, and examinations from U.S. tax authorities. Identify, assess, and mitigate U.S. income tax risks, ensuring appropriate documentation and support. Business Partnership & Special Projects Provide U.S. income tax guidance and support for business initiatives, including acquisitions and other strategic transactions. Support special projects such as technology or tool implementations and process improvements within the tax function. Collaborate cross-functionally with Finance, Business Initiatives, and other internal teams as needed. Tax Research & Legislative Monitoring Conduct tax research and evaluate the impact of changes in U.S. tax law, regulations, and guidance. Monitor legislative and regulatory developments and communicate implications to leadership and key stakeholders. Leadership & Development Manage and develop one direct report, including oversight of work product, coaching, and performance management. Contribute to a culture of continuous improvement, intellectual curiosity, and professional growth within the tax team. The role requires adaptability, strong judgment, and a continuous improvement mindset, with the ability to balance technical rigor and business partnership in a dynamic, fast-paced environment.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting required; Master’s degree preferred.
  • Ten (10) plus years of relevant experience working at international public accounting firm and/or multinational public company.
  • Four (4) plus years of leadership responsibility.
  • CPA certification desired.
  • Or an equivalent combination of education and/or experience.
