About The Position

The Boeing Company is looking for a Senior Manager, Global Aviation System Safety to join our team in Everett, WA . This Senior Manager role within Global Safety & Regulatory Affairs will lead the creation and execution of aligned strategies that shape safety initiatives internally as well as with numerous external organizations. Global Safety & Regulatory Affairs (GS&RA) is part of Safety, Security and Airworthiness (SS&A) within the Chief Aerospace Safety office and is responsible for leading safety initiatives both domestically and internationally. GS&RA promotes global aviation safety by participating alongside other safety professionals from around the world to identify safety risks and advocate for systemic safety enhancements. Starting with strong partnerships across the enterprise, this role will lead engagements with regulatory authorities, ICAO, IATA and other industry groups (manufacturers, operators, pilots, etc.) to shape safety initiatives and policies. This position will oversee a US-based team that works within government and industry safety groups, leads efforts to improve foreign regulator capabilities and partners internally to assess multiple data sources that reflect the level of safety across the global aviation system. In addition, this leader will support, develop and enable a group of highly skilled engineers worldwide who routinely represent Boeing to a variety of industry stakeholders, influencing the development and execution of strategic safety initiatives aimed at accident prevention. The successful candidate will have a working knowledge of airplane-level design and operation, experience interacting with regulatory agencies, and familiarity with the typical interactions between manufactures, operators and industry associations. This position will require domestic and foreign travel approximately 35% of the time. This position will require conducting meetings outside of regular office hours to accommodate world time zones. The successful candidate will have strong work ethic, ability to multitask to meet deadlines, and delegate tasks to ensure organizational goals and priorities are achieved, while modeling Boeing’s Values and Behaviors.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in engineering, aviation safety, aviation management or a related field.
  • Experience leading and managing teams
  • 5+ years of experience related to aircraft manufacturing, airline operations, potentially including Aerodynamics, Airplane performance, Flight Deck or Flight Operations
  • Working knowledge and experience developing/applying aviation related system safety analysis methods such as System Safety Risk Assessments, Fault-tree Analysis (FTA) and Functional Hazard Assessment (FHA)
  • Experience building relationships with customers, regulators, and industry associations
  • Cultural awareness and sensitivity to engage effectively with a wide variety of aviation stakeholders in diverse venues worldwide.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Schedule flexibility to enable effective coordination and engagement with a globally distributed team.

Nice To Haves

  • Licensed pilot, or actively working towards your pilot’s license
  • MBA or Masters degree in an engineering or aviation-related field.
  • Experience interacting with stakeholders with varied professional backgrounds, from working level to executive, and with diverse cultural norms and expectations.

  • Licensed pilot or actively working toward licensure.

  • Experience with aviation-safety-related topics, including Safety Management Systems (SMS), Positive Safety Culture, Flight Data Management (FDM), accident investigation and categorization, product and operational safety enhancements, regulatory safety oversight, airline operations, ICAO USOAP, IATA IOSA, FAA IASA, EU TCO, etc.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate safety initiatives among government organizations, such as the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) and civil aviation regulators, as well as industry organizations such as International Air Transport Association (IATA) and the Flight Safety Foundation.
  • Represent Boeing in government and industry aviation safety forums.
  • Drive alignment and continuous improvement in regional safety efforts around the World and lead safety efforts in the North American (NAM) region.
  • Lead initiatives to develop the Global Safety and Regulatory Affairs skill pipeline, including the Global Aviation Safety Best Practices and Standardization Seminar series and Global Safety and Regulatory Affairs College within Safety and Airworthiness University.
  • Partner with internal organizations including Global Aerospace Safety, BT&E Global Engagement & Training, Boeing Global Services, and BCA Customer Support to develop and maintain relationships with key stakeholders across the North American aviation ecosystem.
  • Develop team and organizational strategies and priorities, and drive execution and alignment by developing and tracking detailed project plans including schedules, budgets, and work statements
