About The Position

System Safety Engineer, Senior The Opportunity: Are you looking for an opportunity to combine your technical skills with big picture thinking to make an impact in system safety? Our team supports senior-level Department of War (DoW) and Service personnel with system safety implementation and oversight for DoW system programs. You’ll leverage your specialized knowledge and expertise in system safety, including applying scientific and engineering principles, criteria, and techniques to identify and assess system safety hazards and inform the implementation of mitigations to reduce warfighter risk. As a systems engineer on our team, you'll enjoy a dynamic team environment executing comprehensive system safety programs or individual tasks on a variety of systems, including radar systems, unmanned systems, ground-based missile systems, surface vessel and support systems, or laser systems. You will be familiar with typical work products, including System Safety Program Plans (SSPP), a variety of analyses, including Preliminary Hazard Analysis (PHA), Subsystem Hazard Analysis (SSHA) and System Hazard Analysis (SHA), Operating and Support Hazard Analysis (O&SHA), Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) analysis, Safety Assessment Reports (SAR), Safety of Use Messages (SOUMs), safety releases, and test report evaluations. You'll analyze data, develop deliverables, and assist with the presentation of your safety analyses and results. Assist with the review of system safety artifacts to verify compliance with requirements, policy, and guidance documents. You'll conduct these tasks following established plans and quality standards and have the freedom to improve processes and advance the discipline of system safety. Requirements

  • 5+ years of experience implementing DoW system safety programs
  • Experience in the conduct of MIL-STD-882 safety analyses or system safety program implementation
  • Experience analyzing, researching, assessing, and organizing technical data into cohesive and clear technical reports and presentations
  • Experience leading others and executing project management
  • Ability to organize, schedule, and facilitate technical meetings and working groups
  • Secret clearance
  • Bachelor’s degree in a Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics (STEM) field, and 10+ years of experience in engineering, or 14+ years of experience in engineering in lieu of a degree

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with ground-based radar systems
  • Experience with MCSCO 5100.29D Safety Releases, MCO 5100.29C Marine Corps Safety Management System Volume 2, Risk Management, and MCO 5100.29C Marine Corps Safety Management System Volume 9, and Navy and Marine Corps Safety Investigation and Reporting Manual
  • Experience with digital engineering, machine learning and artificial intelligence, software development, solid-state electrical circuit design, unmanned systems design, human factors engineering, or fault tree analysis
  • Knowledge of NAVSEAINST 8020.6 Weapon System Explosives Safety Review Board (WSESRB) and Software Systems Safety Technical Review Panel (SSSTRP)
  • Knowledge of Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations related to transport of hazardous materials
  • Possession of excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Certified Safety Professional (CSP), Navy Principal for Safety (PFS), USMC Principal for Environment, Safety, and Occupational Health (PESOH), or Certified Systems Engineering Professional (CSEP) Certification
