About The Position

This is an exciting opportunity for a highly motivated Senior System Safety Engineer to join us on the Naval Powers (NP) System Safety team in Tucson, AZ. As a Senior System Safety Engineer, your responsibilities will include:

Requirements

  • Typically requires a Bachelor’s in Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics (STEM preferred) and a minimum of 5 years of prior relevant experience.
  • Experience with System Safety Engineering with Software or Firmware or Electrical Engineering.
  • The ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. government issued secret security clearance is required. U.S. citizenship is required, as only U.S. citizens are eligible for a security clearance.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in weapon combat systems.
  • Experience with DoD System Safety Programs.
  • Experience with Earned Value Management Systems (EVMS) and Proposal Development.
  • Experience with presentation skills.
  • Interpersonal and project management skills, with the ability to manage a safety program and provide direction to supporting safety personnel.

Responsibilities

  • Supporting and/or leading one or more MIL-STD-882E compliant system safety programs.
  • Performing MIL-STD-882E System Safety Program tasks and analyses (e.g. System Safety Program Plan, Preliminary Hazard Analysis, Functional Hazard Analysis, System Hazard Analysis, Subsystem Hazard Analysis, Safety Assessment Reports, Software Hazard Analysis, Firmware Hazard Analysis and others)
  • Performing supporting analyses such as Fault Tree Analysis, Bent Pin Analysis, etc.
  • Coordinating with customer safety representatives to gain safety approval from appropriate Safety Review Board authorities.
  • Working across all integrated product teams and lines to properly eliminate hazards or provide effective controls.
  • Collaborating with Program Management and government approval authorities from program startup through production to demilitarization and disposal backgrounds.
  • Performing System Safety Program, Hazard analyses or Design analyses.
  • Briefing safety of the program at technical reviews and as part of the safety approval process.
  • Interpreting system requirements, customer specifications and military standards.
  • Preparing internal and customer reports describing various analyses relevant to the System Safety program.
  • Collaborating across multiple disciplines to gain a full understanding of product architecture and design.
