About The Position

The Senior Manager, Artist Sustainability, Lifetime Support for Artists manages resources that encompass artist funding, incubation and presentation of work, and artist sustainability programs. In particular, the Senior Manager, Artist Sustainability collaborates with the Lifetime Support team to ideate, build, and oversee the day-to-day operations of alumni resources focused on artist sustainability. Within the Lifetime Support suite of artist services, artist sustainability includes the life cycle of an artist across emerging, advancing, and sustaining career stages paying specific attention to skills for professionalization and/or career development across all artistic disciplines, mentorship support systems, financial literacy, artist wellness, and artist community development. This position is responsible for implementation of strategic objectives and organizational initiatives as set forth by the Senior Director, Lifetime Support for Artists, ensuring operational efficiency and coherence within programs’ overall resource architecture. The Senior Manager, Artist Sustainability supports the Senior Director, Lifetime Support for Artists in providing leadership for the team and helping build the community of YoungArts alumni, external partners, donors, and arts thought-leaders working in the artist services space.

  • Depth of experience developing artist-centered operational practices.
  • Evidence of knowledge, experience, and leadership working directly with artists from multiple artistic practices.
  • Evidence of knowledge, experience, and leadership in programmatic design across multiple artistic practices.
  • Evidence of knowledge, experience, and leadership in producing events across multiple artistic practices.
  • Experience in developing programs appropriate to artists’ development and individualized goals for success.
  • Evidence of strong leadership skills, including decisiveness, emotional intelligence, prioritization, negotiation, and equanimity in a fast-paced environment.
  • Evidence of experience in utilizing program management software including but not limited to Excel, Submittable, AirTable, and Salesforce.
  • Outstanding oral and written communication skills.
  • Experience with budget development and management.
  • Flexibility to work outside of regular office hours for programs and events.
  • Bachelor’s degree or the equivalent in education and experience
  • 5+ years of progressive experience managing high-performing teams and evidence of responsibility growth in the arts and culture field

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with Senior Director, Lifetime Support for Artists to execute and document strategy for internal operational excellence of the artist sustainability portfolio, including the management of cross-team collaboration and project management infrastructures that will support growth and transformation of existing and developing programs.
  • Collaborate with the Lifetime Support team to develop and document new planning processes, language, timelines, and pathways to communicate opportunities available to the artist community related to artist sustainability portfolio.
  • Collaborate in the ideation, building, and managing of alumni programs including professionalization and/or career development programs, mentorship support systems, financial literacy programs, artist wellness programs, and artist community development.
  • Collaborate with the Advancement team to facilitate professional opportunities within Advancement events.
  • In coordination with team members and People Operations, execute invoices and contracts for the Lifetime Support for Artists team.
  • Support the transformation of the programs’ data collection methods and tools to track, learn about, and connect all artists in the community.
  • Partner with the Senior Director, Integrated Advancement to aggregate, analyze, and report programmatic activity for all stakeholders.
  • Develop and cultivate relationships with local and national arts service organizations, arts institutions, and independent artists to support the growth of artist sustainability programs.
  • Provide clear communication, guidelines, goal setting, and evaluation for all contractors who participate in artist sustainability programs.
  • Contribute to the annual development of the budget and revenue strategy.
  • Identify innovative ways that YoungArts can expand and adapt its programming, ensuring that cutting edge approaches are utilized for greater reach and impact.
  • Develop and steward relationships with award winners, artists, and cultural organizations to support programmatic growth.
  • Represent YoungArts in national convenings and contribute thought leadership to the field.
  • Adhere to all safety and security policies of the organization, including those pertaining to physical safety and practices.
  • Report any potential or actual violations to security and People Operations as appropriate.
