About The Position

The Senior Manager, Accounting executes the foundation’s day-to-day accounting and finance operations and plays a central role in the foundation’s tax, internal controls and financial management activities. This role ensures accurate financial reporting, oversees compliance with private operating foundation rules, and provides strategic financial insights organization-wide.

Requirements

  • Excellent analytical, organizational and problem-solving abilities with great attention to detail
  • Proven ability to work independently and set own deadlines, exceptional time management skills, ability to multitask and prioritize effectively.
  • In-depth knowledge of internal controls and financial reporting standards to maintain audits, tax filings and regulatory compliance.
  • Demonstrated experienced training and guiding staff on accounting policies and procedures with excellent leadership, communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Demonstrated experience compiling, reviewing data, and preparing reports in support of budgeting, forecasting, and planning processes.
  • Demonstrated experience leading and delivering complex projects
  • Trusted to handle sensitive financial information with discretion and professionalism
  • Advanced Excel skills and ability to design and maintain accounting reports
  • Bachelor’s degree in business management, finance or accounting or 5+ progressive years of related experience in accounting

Nice To Haves

  • Professional accounting certification a plus
  • Strong understanding of nonprofit or private foundation accounting and financial compliance, gained through direct nonprofit roles or accounting experience with nonprofit clients.
  • Experience with Microsoft Dynamics Business Central, or comparable accounting software
  • Experience with Bill.com and Navan, or comparable accounts payable and expense reporting software

Responsibilities

  • Manage and process all day-to-day accounting and tax activities, including general ledger. Accounts payable, tax estimates and investment transactions; ensure the general ledger accurately reflects all transactions
  • Prepare and analyze a variety of reporting including monthly financial statements and schedules, charitable distribution requirements and investment analysis
  • Assist with the budget preparation and monitoring process, including variance analysis and forecasting
  • Ensure compliance with all internal controls
  • Manage accounts payable using com and administer employee expense reports using Key2Purchase and Navan; ensure accurate coding, approvals, and timely payments
  • Assist with treasury functions, including cash flow and investment administration
  • Coordinate, manage and prepare audit schedules and supporting documentation for the annual audit and tax return preparation.
  • Support compliance with accounting policies and regulations, including private operating foundation rules and tax estimates
  • Keep apprised of current accounting, tax and private operating foundation rules and regulations, integrate into processes and procedures as appropriate
  • Engage with staff across departments to train on accounting procedures, facilitate accurate coding, and continuously improve process documentation.
  • Maintain documentation of standard operating procedures, Chart of Accounts and Accounting Manual
  • Implement and coordinate projects and other duties assigned by the Senior Director and Controller, Accounting
