About The Position

KBR’s National Security Solutions team provides high-end engineering and advanced technology solutions to our customers in the intelligence and national security communities. In this position, your work will have a profound impact on the country’s most critical role – protecting our national security. The Senior Machinist is responsible for the programming, setup, and operation of precision machining equipment to produce high-tolerance components. The Machinist shall manufacture mechanical prototypes and engineering models from sketches and conversations with Engineers and Technicians. The machinist shall work on various materials, including metal, plastics, nylon, composites, and others. The Machinist shall work with little or no direction from engineers.

Requirements

  • Must be able to obtain an interim secret clearance to start and maintain once approved
  • 6 years of related experience as a senior-level machinist
  • Experienced in operating Hass VF series milling machines
  • Experienced in operating Hass TL lathes

Nice To Haves

  • Associate degree or technical certification in machining or manufacturing technology.
  • Experience with CAD/CAM software (e.g., Mastercam).
  • Prior experience in aerospace, defense, or high-precision manufacturing environments.

Responsibilities

  • Program, set up, and operate CNC and manual machines, including mills and lathes.
  • Interpret complex blueprints, GD&T specifications, and engineering drawings to produce precision parts.
  • Works from prints, complex drawings, sketches, or samples to accomplish layout and plan for sequential machine operations.
  • Works with a variety of metals and materials that have complex machining characteristics.
  • Operates various hand and power tools to perform fabrication processes to include band saws, drill presses, mechanical shears, and punches.
  • Write programs using Mastercam from blueprints and drawings to develop numerical code to operate CNC machinery assigning tool paths, feed rates and other cutting parameters.
  • Import numerical code to machines and perform setup and operation function to machine components.
  • May work independently from drawings, applying technical knowledge to develop and machine components.
  • Ensure compliance with safety standards and company policies.
  • Support prototype development and low-volume production runs.
