About The Position

Coppin State University, a fully accredited institution, and a member of the University System of Maryland, is accepting applications for a full-time Non-Tenure-Track Assistant Professor, for the Department of Psychology, Counseling and Behavioral Health. Founded in 1900, Coppin is an urban residential historically black university (HBCU), serving students enrolled in day, evening, weekend, and online courses. Undergraduate majors available include Applied Psychological Services, with/without a Concentration in Alcohol and Substance Abuse, and Rehabilitation Services, both leading to a B.S. Degree. The Department offers graduate level degree programs in Addiction Counseling (M.S.) and Rehabilitation Counseling (M.Ed.). This full-time faculty position is a ten-month position that includes teaching in the Master’s Clinical Mental Health Counseling Rehabilitation Program, advising, and academic committee membership responsibilities to begin in Spring 2026.

Requirements

  • Candidates must hold an earned doctoral degree in Counselor Education or a closely related field.
  • An established record of teaching experience in a CACREP accredited program, particularly courses in Psychology, Counseling and Behavioral Health to include Clinical Mental Health Counseling Rehabilitation.
  • Research experience that exhibits a scholarly background in Psychology, Counseling and Behavioral Health to include Clinical Mental Health Counseling Rehabilitation.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of Psychology, Counseling and Behavioral Health to include Clinical Mental Health Counseling Rehabilitation and research.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of programs and standards for accreditation.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently, manage and prioritize multiple tasks.
  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate and support all constituents involved.
  • A commitment to cultural diversity and social justice.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
  • Demonstrated commitment to higher academic and professional standards.

Nice To Haves

  • Preference will be given to applicants with degrees from CACREP-accredited programs.
  • Individuals with related doctoral degrees who have served as full-time faculty in a counselor education program for at least one full academic year prior to hire are also eligible.

Responsibilities

  • Deliver instruction in both undergraduate and graduate-level courses within the department, including Clinical Mental Health Counseling, Rehabilitation Counseling, and other discipline-related subjects as assigned.
  • Maintain a teaching load of up to 12 credit hours per semester and provide academic advisement to students across degree levels.
  • Demonstrate scholarship through professional development, ability to present at academic conferences and maintain an active research and publication related to Psychology, Counseling and Behavioral Health to include Clinical Mental Health Counseling Rehabilitation.
  • Maintain regular and consistent student advisement.
  • Displaying thorough knowledge of program and university curriculum, help promote retention through active monitoring of student progress through graduation.
  • Provide service on Departmental, College, and University-Wide Committees.
  • Perform other duties as needed to support the Department and College.
  • Maintain required on-campus office hours per week.
