About The Position

The Senior Healthcare Data Analyst will work within the Division of Data Services & Analytics (DDSA) Data Quality team. The position is multi-role in nature and will perform duties in the areas of Data Analysis, Project Management and Business Analysis. The individual will be responsible for the research and understanding of database structures and business context of various elements related to Medicaid claims. Related efforts will include the production of reports in support of the intake and management of healthcare data. The ideal candidate will be able to utilize their experience and skills to respond to requests concerning the lineage, structure, and business context of data elements withing DDSA’s data catalog. They should have the ability pull data from large datasets using SQL, cleanse, standardize, and profile data tables and elements, produce summary reports of data mining and analytic exercises, and provide insight into the management and quality of data in the NYS Department of Health’s Medicaid program. Comprehensive on-the-job training and peer/supervisory support will be provided. The candidate should be able to take on new tasks and subject areas, willing to work in a team environment, and able to adjust to multiple priorities successfully.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree highly preferred
  • Experience with SQL and relational databases required; experience with Python, R, Tableau, or other programming and visualization languages preferred
  • Familiarity with ITIL and Service Management principles preferred
  • Database architecture and data management experience preferred
  • Project Management certification or relevant experience a plus
  • Artificial intelligence and/or machine learning experience a plus
  • Ability to translate technical specifications and communicate in clear manner to broad audience
  • Work independently and collaboratively in a team environment to move data quality projects forward
  • Exceptional verbal, written, and time-management skills
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, specifically Outlook, Excel, Word required; experience with SharePoint, Teams, PowerPoint, and Visio preferred

Responsibilities

  • Curation / Stewardship of healthcare related data
  • Research and response to both structural and contextual aspects of selected data sets
  • Definition, planning, scheduling, and managing all aspects and resources for completion of deliverables
  • Administration / Management of toolsets used to curate institutional knowledge about data sets
  • Providing guidance to teams on sound use of specified data elements
  • Building consensus and common understanding of data between technical and business program stakeholders
