The Senior Director, Finance is a senior financial leader within Oshkosh Corporation’s Transport segment, providing comprehensive accounting and finance leadership to the Defense business unit. This role has a broad scope and significant impact, with ultimate accountability for accurate financial reporting, robust internal controls, statutory compliance, adherence to federal regulations and continuous improvement. The position supports disciplined execution, operational excellence and scalable growth within a complex environment. Reporting to the Transport Segment Vice President of Finance, the Senior Director partners closely with Defense business unit leadership, Transport segment leadership and the Corporate Controller’s office. The role is based in Oshkosh, Wisconsin.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
  • 15+ years of progressive accounting and financial leadership experience in large, complex organizations.

Nice To Haves

  • CPA strongly preferred; equivalent senior-level accounting leadership experience will be considered.
  • Deep knowledge of U.S. GAAP and internal control over financial reporting; including significant experience with over-time revenue recognition under ASC 606, Revenue from Contracts with Customers.
  • Experience in the U.S. defense industry and/or government contracting, including working knowledge of Cost Accounting Standards (CAS), Federal Acquisition Regulations (FAR) and Defense Federal Acquisition Regulations Supplement (DFARS).
  • Demonstrated success leading large, multi-layered accounting teams.
  • Strong executive presence, communication skills, and professional judgment.

Responsibilities

  • Financial Leadership & Reporting Provide strategic and operational leadership for all accounting and finance activities for the Defense business unit, including general accounting, operations finance, cost accounting, internal control over financial reporting, statutory reporting and FP&A.
  • Ensure the accuracy, integrity, and timeliness of financial statements in accordance with U.S. GAAP, SOX requirements, and Oshkosh Corporation policies.
  • Oversee the Defense business unit’s monthly, quarterly and annual close and reporting processes, driving continuous improvement in speed, quality, and consistency across the Transport segment.
  • Lead the analysis and documentation of accounting for contracts under U.S. GAAP.
  • Lead the quarterly process to update and evaluate performance obligation profitability assumptions in support of long-term contract and percentage-of-completion accounting.
  • Planning, Analysis & Business Partnership Partner with Defense business unit leadership across programs, operations, engineering and supply chain to support execution of business strategies and performance objectives.
  • Serve as a trusted financial advisor, bringing strong analytical rigor and sound judgment to complex business and accounting matters.
  • Analyze and monitor key profitability drivers, including program margins, and partner with leadership to drive cost discipline and performance improvement.
  • Lead Defense business unit FP&A activities, including budgeting, forecasting and variance analysis.
  • Prepare and present routine quarterly close and monthly forecast updates to segment operating and Corporate Finance leadership.
  • Direct the preparation and use of financial performance dashboards, variance analyses, and program-level reporting to promote transparency and timely, data-driven decision-making.
  • Lead ongoing financial monitoring and accountability for major programs and initiatives, ensuring alignment with financial commitments, contract assumptions, and performance objectives.
  • Support disciplined cash flow and working capital management.
  • Support acquisition and integration activities, including accounting due diligence, purchase accounting, and post-acquisition integration.
  • Controls, Compliance & Governance Ensure effective internal controls and compliance with statutory, regulatory, and governance requirements across all jurisdictions.
  • Act as a primary liaison to Corporate Finance, ensuring alignment with enterprise accounting policies, internal controls, and reporting standards.
  • Coordinate external and government audits, serving as a key point of contact for auditors.
  • Continuous Improvement & Transformation Lead continuous improvement initiatives to elevate accounting and finance capabilities across the Transport segment, balancing standardization, scalability and business-specific needs.
  • Advance digital transformation through automation, analytics, and digital tools to enhance reporting accuracy, timeliness, and insight generation.
  • Promote a culture of accountability, rigor, and integrity, with accurate accounting as a foundational priority.
  • Talent & Organization Leadership Develop, mentor, and retain a high-performing accounting and finance team.
  • Lead teams effectively through change, transformation initiatives, and evolving business requirements.
  • Build bench strength, succession plans, and long-term organizational resilience for the Transport segment and Defense business unit accounting and finance team.
