About The Position

Hour Children help incarcerated and formerly incarcerated women and their children successfully rejoin the community, reunify with their families, and build healthy, independent, and secure lives. Strong nonprofit senior leader with demonstrated experience connecting funding and the mission dedicated to continuing to build the financial health of Hour Children. The leader will manage with equity and diversity lens and should have in-depth knowledge of risk management methods and the ability to create forecasting models including overseeing cash flow planning, preparing, and reviewing budgets and tracking operational performance indicators. Be a thought partner with the Executive Director (ED) to guide the financial future of the organization.

Requirements

  • Minimum of a BA, ideally with an MBA or related degree
  • At least five to seven years of overall nonprofit finance management experience including broad nonprofit management, financial, and operations
  • Experience with complex nonprofit fund accounting; multiple programs; multiple revenue streams; grants administration and reporting including working with New York City and New York State grants and contracts reporting systems such as Passport, Grants Gateway, HHS, etc.
  • Be tech savvy with experience selecting and overseeing software implementation, training, and managing relationships with software vendors; knowledge of accounting and reporting software (such as SAGE Intacct, Fundez, Kindful, etc.)
  • Strong interpersonal and written and verbal communication skills
  • Keen analytic, organization, and problem-solving skills demonstrated by strategic data interpretation versus simple reporting; experience effectively communicating key data, including presentations to senior management, board, or other outside partners.
  • A successful record in setting priorities; keen analytic, organization and critical thinking skills which support and enable sound decision making
  • Multi-tasker with excellent communication and relationship building skills with an ability to prioritize, negotiate, and work with a variety of internal and external stakeholders

Responsibilities

  • Thought partnering with the Executive Director, the position will oversee and lead day-to-day finance, accounting reporting activities and annual budgeting; administer and review all financial plans and budgets; monitor progress and changes
  • Analyze and present financial reports in an accurate and timely manner; clearly communicate monthly and annual financial statements; collate financial reporting materials for all donor segments, and oversee all financial, project/program and grants accounting.
  • Collaborate with contracts management staff to ensure that the contract billing, grants management systems, and collection schedule is adhered to.
  • Manage organizational cash flow and forecasting along with driving continuous improvement and standardization for the administrative aspect of the department
  • Administer fiscal management/ reporting system and ensure HC financial data and cash flow are steady and support its operational needs
  • Coordinate annual audit process with external auditors and the finance committee of the board of directors. Ensure systems and procedures support effective program implementation and facilitate audits.
  • Participate in nonprofit board of directors' meetings and committees as applicable.
  • Update and implement all necessary accounting policies and practices; improve the finance department's overall policy and procedure manual.
  • Work closely and transparently with all external partners including funders, third-party vendors, and consultants.
  • Effectively communicate and present critical financial matters to the ED and/or board of directors.
  • Leverage strengths of the finance staff and other departments, help to clarify roles and responsibilities and develop and implement training programs to maximize and reach optimal individual and organizational goals.
  • Supervise accounting staff and/or consultants including orientation
  • Keep senior leadership team abreast of the organization's financial status; work closely with senior and other management staff to translate financial concepts who may not necessarily have finance background
