We're currently recruiting for two Senior Facilities Maintenance Specialists. The position is responsible for maintenance and repairs to existing systems throughout city buildings, including police stations, fire stations, community centers, and various office buildings. The Senior Facilities Maintenance Specialist position performs all aspects of professional, journey-level facilities maintenance tasks, including but not limited to plumbing, mechanical systems, aquatic pump systems, carpentry, and light electrical work under the supervision of a licensed electrician. This position works either as part of a team or alone and with or without direct supervision. This is a full-time, regular, non-exempt union position. This position is covered under the provisions of an agreement between the City and the AFSCME union. The schedule for this position is M-F, 6am to 3pm.

Requirements

  • Five (5) years of recent commercial / industrial building maintenance experience.
  • Equivalent to a HS Diploma/GED supplemented by the completion of trade school training or journey level status.
  • Equivalent combinations of education and experience may be considered.
  • Basic skills in Microsoft Word, Outlook, and Internet Explorer
  • Basic skills using a database system or Excel
  • Intermediate skills in HVAC control software systems
  • Possession of a Valid State of Washington driver's license
  • Ability to obtain: CPR / First Aid AED card within three (3) months of hire
  • Ability to obtain: Confined Space certification within six (6) months of hire.
  • Ability to obtain: Forklift certification within six (6) months of hire
  • Ability to obtain: Defensive Driving certification within six (6) months of hire
  • Ability to obtain: CJIS certificate within three (3) months of hire
  • Ability to obtain: Scissor and / or articulating lift certification within one (1) year of hire
  • Ability to obtain: Fall protection training
  • Methods, practices and equipment used in facilities management and activities including a variety of building trades work.
  • Basic theory of electricity.
  • Basic theory and practice of heating, ventilation, and air conditioning systems.
  • Tools and equipment used in building maintenance, reconstruction, and repair work.
  • City policies, procedures, regulations, and codes related to facility maintenance and repair.
  • Occupational hazards and necessary precautions applicable to building and mechanical maintenance work.
  • Preventive maintenance requirements.
  • Safe work practices.
  • Operate a personal computer and appropriate software
  • Work in a manner consistent with the City of Vancouver's Operating Principles
  • Work and act as a team player in all interactions with other City employees
  • Provide a high level of customer service at all times
  • Project and maintain a positive image with those contacted in the course of work
  • Develop and maintain collaborative and respectful working relationships with team members and others

  • Maintain regular and dependable attendance
  • Use of a pager or mobile phone for 24/7 on-call emergency response to HVAC issue on a rotating basis.
  • This position is subject to successful completion of a pre-employment reference check, a basic criminal background check, and a driving abstract.

Responsibilities

  • Perform journey level carpentry work including the construction, installation, remodeling and repairing of furniture, cabinets, partitions, walls, windows, doors, and other carpentry work.
  • Inspect building facilities to identify building maintenance needs.
  • Read and interpret sketches, diagrams, and blueprints.
  • Repair electrical lighting systems and fixtures
  • Assist in preparing job estimates and obtaining bids on parts and supplies in support of repair and replacement of building equipment.
  • Inputting data into the City financial reporting and computerized maintenance management systems (CMMS).
  • Installation, maintenance and repair of commercial refrigeration and cooking appliances including ice machines, freezers, gas and electric stoves, ovens and walk in / reach in refrigeration equipment
  • Comply with federal, state and local environmental regulations and requirements for boiler equipment emission's annual testing and reporting.
  • Participate in safety meetings, training requirements as needed and comply with City safety requirements including but not limited to, First Aid/CPR, AED, Hazardous materials, Blood borne pathogens, confined space, fall protection, scissor and articulating lift certification, and defensive driving.
  • Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
