The Robotics and Digital solutions (RAD) group, part of the Johnson & Johnson family of companies, is recruiting for an Electromagnetic Compatibility (EMC) Test Engineer . Located in Santa Clara, CA . Within RAD R&D we are a team of clinical, electrical, firmware, mechanical, mechatronics, robotic controls, systems and software engineers who are passionate about improving patient care. As an EMC test engineer on our team, you will join our journey to develop and deliver some of the most sophisticated medical robotic systems in the world. You will work closely with our Compliance team to operate a lab consisting of an RF chamber and EMC test equipment for hardware designs going through the hardware development process. This role offers significant technical responsibility, growth opportunities, and the chance to have a significant impact on global healthcare.

Requirements

  • A degree in Electrical Engineering with 4+ years of relevant EMC testing experience, including hands‑on RF chamber operation and management.
  • Proven hands‑on experience using the full complement of RF/EMC equipment.
  • Practical knowledge of international EMC, wireless standards, and regulations.

Responsibilities

  • Manage an RF laboratory and associated EMC equipment.
  • Perform radiated emissions, radiated immunity, ESD and other EMC tests.
  • Fix EMC issues uncovered during testing and work with design teams to resolve and fix Compliance issues.
  • Schedule usage, maintain inventory, and be responsible for preventative maintenance.
  • Train engineers and technicians on safe usage of test equipment and maintain a safe RF lab work environment implementing lab safety practices and access controls.
