The Senior Design Director will lead transformative design strategies for American Express Global Business Travel, driving innovative service design solutions that enhance customer experience and operational efficiency. The ideal candidate combines principled leadership with unwavering advocacy for both users and design excellence. You will champion user-centered solutions with conviction, grounding all recommendations in data and evidence and skillfully persuade stakeholders toward better outcomes. This role requires holding the team accountable to high standards while modeling the design rigor we expect across the organization. You'll balance collaborative partnership, engaging peers and stakeholders while advocating high quality user experiences. Ultimately, you serve as a role model for principled design leadership, ensuring that every decision reflects our commitment to both user needs and business impact.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Design, Human-Computer Interaction, or related field
  • 10+ years of professional design experience, with 5+ years in senior leadership roles
  • Proven track record of managing complex, global design projects
  • Experience in designing AI-enabled, mobile, and web solutions for B2B and B2C environments
  • Strong portfolio demonstrating service design and strategic design capabilities
  • Advanced skills in design research, user experience, and interaction design
  • Advanced service design methodology expertise
  • Exceptional cross-functional collaboration skills
  • Strategic thinking and innovation leadership
  • Ability to manage multiple stakeholders and complex project environments
  • Strong visual and communication design skills
  • Deep understanding of AI integration in design solutions
  • Proven experience in creating seamless user experiences across mobile and web platforms

Responsibilities

  • Develop comprehensive service design strategies for complex global business travel ecosystems
  • Lead cross-functional design initiatives that integrate user experience, technological innovation, and business objectives
  • Create holistic design frameworks that address multi-stakeholder needs and pain points
  • Facilitate collaborative design workshops and design thinking sessions
  • Translate complex business requirements into intuitive, user-centered design solutions
  • Develop and communicate design vision and roadmaps to senior leadership
  • Drive design innovation across AI, mobile, and web platforms for both B2B and B2C applications
