About The Position

This position has system-wide responsibilities for the accounting for net patient services revenue, primarily from the hospitals (Hospital Billing or HB) and medical group clinics (Physician Billing or PB) of Intermountain Health. This position is responsible for directing the accounting for net patient services revenue through planning, coordinating, and monitoring activities. This position is the highest-level subject matter expert of the accounting for net patient services revenue at Intermountain. Essential Functions Oversees the accounting for net patient services revenue for HB and PB for Intermountain Health. Manages a team of accountants utilizing Epic and the Kodiak Revenue Cycle Analytics (RCA) net revenue tool in recording monthly net revenue associated valuation journal entries. Develops, champions and oversees patient revenue of Intermountain Health. Manages, coordinates, and champions multiple revenue cycle initiatives across the organization to improve processes and support optimal high performing revenue cycle operations. Directs the maintenance of the charge description master (CDM) for HB and PB by incorporating new charges/services identified by internal stakeholders, third party resources, Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) special requirements and coding updates. Oversees the monitoring and change management practices for the CDM, revenue routing, fee schedules and client agreements while maintaining consistency with third party, regulatory oversight agencies and legislative requirements. Ensures codes contained in the CDM and fee schedules are accurate and in compliance with regulatory and/or contractual guidelines and that claims logic is appropriate for accurate billing. Participates in various IT-related steering committees for information technology changes which affect the revenue cycle. Champions the design, build and implementation of revenue-generating clinical services within Epic and other IT platforms. Sets direction related to timeliness of charges to promote accuracy and integrity. Escalates variances in performance across revenue-generating departments of the organization through a variety of tools. Promotes and oversees process improvement opportunities for charge capture improvement. Provides direction and oversees that the charge methods are applied consistently and accurately at the care site and supporting areas through the appropriate owner assignment and tools. Oversees revenue optimization identification and educates departments with respect to the use and maintenance of the CDM and charging philosophy. Works collaboratively with the revenue producing department leadership and clinical care sites to ensure all charges are being documented, captured and reconciled. Directs human resource functions, such as interviewing, selection, orientation, education/training, feedback, performance evaluation, and policy and procedure development, on the revenue management team. Oversees the maintenance of personnel files, including documentation of appropriate staff orientation, competency, training, discipline and performance reviews. Conducts employee coaching, counselling, disciplinary actions and annual reviews. Ensures staff adherence to hospital and departmental policies and procedures. Ability to build strong partnerships across the organization with Managed Care, Finance, DTS, operations and clinical leadership to ensure Intermountain Health strategies are executed while keeping the patient clinical and financial record aligned. Assists the Finance department with preparing the net patient services revenue portion of the operational and capital budgets. Performs other duties as assigned.

  • Bachelor’s degree in health care administration, accounting, finance, or health information management is required.
  • Progressive executive level responsibility for multispecialty departments and multiple locations managing complex revenue cycle operations is required.
  • Advanced knowledge of revenue cycle, state and federal requirements (i.e., charging, billing, price transparency) and a thorough understanding of the front, middle and back-end revenue cycle practices is required.

Nice To Haves

  • Master’s degree is preferred.
  • Deep understanding of Epic and Kodiak’s RCA net revenue tool is strongly preferred.
  • Understanding of Epic and Kodiak RCA net revenue tool is strongly preferred.
  • Understanding of coding classification systems, such as ICD-10-CM, ICD-9-CM, MS-DRG, CPT-4, APR-DRG, and HCC strongly preferred.
  • CPA or Kodiak Certified Net Revenue Analyst (CNRA) designation is preferred.
  • Familiarity with, Oracle Cloud, PeopleSoft and Workday is preferred.
