Denver International Airport is recruiting for a Senior Director of Maintenance to provide operational and strategic leadership to the DEN Facilities Management Team. As the Senior Director of Maintenance, you will lead and direct multiple functional areas within the Airport Maintenance Division at the Denver International Airport, and report to the Senior Vice President for Airport Maintenance. The functional areas include: Facility Maintenance, Life Safety, and the Maintenance Control Center. In this position, you will be responsible for the oversight of the performance of these sections as related to the goals and objectives of the airport's strategic plan, managing the budget and expenses, developing, and implementing projects and programs that will improve their performance, and serving as a liaison to the airport stakeholders. Specifically, as the Senior Director, you will:

Requirements

  • 5 or more years of facility maintenance leadership experience at the Director or Manager level, overseeing large-scale, public-facing facilities in a 24/7/365 operational environment.
  • Proven ability to lead and develop in-house skilled trades teams, with expertise in managing complex electrical, mechanical, and life safety systems, including HVAC, plumbing, and Central Utility Plants.
  • Strong strategic leadership skills with experience guiding highly technical teams and implementing best practices in maintenance operations.
  • Demonstrated success in workforce planning, organizational development, and the creation and oversight of training programs.
  • Data-driven decision-maker with the ability to analyze trends, build business cases, and influence outcomes through logic and negotiation.
  • Skilled in managing ambiguity and emergency situations, with a confident, solutions-oriented approach to critical decision-making.
  • Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration Management, Aviation Management or a related field.
  • Five (5) years of experience at the type and level of functional or operational management, which must have included management of subordinate supervisors.
  • FBI criminal background check is required for all positions at Denver International Airport (DEN). Employees are also required to report any felony convictions and/or moving violations to maintain this clearance and be eligible for continued employment.
  • Denver International Airport is a 24/7/365 team operation. If weather conditions warrant or an emergency crisis occurs, all DEN employees can be required to work extended hours and/or shifts.

Nice To Haves

  • Familiarity with Computerized Maintenance Management Systems (CMMS), such as Maximo.
  • Professional certifications such as IFMA’s Facility Management Professional (FMP) or Certified Facility Manager (CFM) are a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Lead section performance aligned with the airport’s Strategic Plan and key performance indicators (KPIs), developing strategies to meet or exceed benchmarks.
  • Provide visionary leadership by coaching, mentoring, and developing staff, while fostering a culture of accountability, growth, and succession planning.
  • Collaborate with Project Managers on project definition, design intent, cost estimating, and scheduling to ensure alignment with organizational goals.
  • Oversee capital and O&M budget development, conduct fiscal analysis, and present business-case justifications to support sound financial decisions.
  • Drive continuous improvement by identifying process enhancements, implementing standards and policies, and promoting innovation across teams.
  • Champion environmental stewardship, sustainability initiatives, and emergency preparedness through Operational Risk Management strategies.
  • Represent the organization to internal and external stakeholders, providing subject matter expertise and presenting at professional and public forums.
  • Ensure delivery of exceptional customer service by equipping staff with technical, supervisory, and leadership training and resources.
  • Manage operational and management issues during regular and off-hours, contributing to strategic planning and problem resolution.
  • Stay current on industry trends and challenges, modeling personal accountability and holding staff to high standards of performance and integrity.
