About The Position

The Senior Director of Communications is responsible for shaping and driving Catholic Charities Boston's (CCAB) overarching narrative across all communication channels. This position is strategic, leading the agency's comprehensive storytelling strategy to amplify mission and impact and strengthen awareness of Catholic Charities Boston. The Senior Director is the primary storyteller for the agency, crafting compelling content that elevates the voices of those we serve while strategically communicating Catholic Charities' transformative work to key stakeholders including donors, clients, and partners in alignment with the agency’s long-term strategic plan.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree required; master's preferred with a minimum of 5-7 years of prior related experience.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and interest/ability to interact with a diverse group of stakeholders including clients, public officials, senior leadership, donors, and media.
  • Exceptional writing and editing skills with demonstrated ability to produce original, high-quality content for diverse audiences and platforms.
  • Confident presentation and phone skills.
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to set and meet daily deadlines.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Flexibility to work varied hours to support agency functions and willingness to travel to site locations is required.

Nice To Haves

  • Multimedia skills including photography and ability to make video reels a plus.
  • Comfort speaking to groups of varying sizes.
  • Familiarity with project management or social media content planning tools desired.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and execute comprehensive, multi-year communications strategies that directly support the agency's strategic plan and drive measurable increases in brand awareness, stakeholder engagement, and mission impact.
  • Write and produce high-impact content: create sophisticated, compelling content across multiple formats—including long-form features, op-eds, newsletters, and social media content, while maintaining editorial standards for the agency.
  • Partner with program directors and senior leadership to identify and develop high-impact stories.
  • Manage the relationship with the agency's public relations firm. Lead meetings, coordinate story placements, draft talking points, and prepare Catholic Charities representatives for interviews.
  • Ensure all messaging reflects Catholic Charities’ mission and values while elevating client stories with dignity and respect.
  • Oversee messaging for the agency’s website.
  • Lead cross-functional collaboration with development/advancement, programs, and executive teams on fundraising and stewardship communications to ensure integrated messaging and maximum impact.
  • Advise leadership on communications opportunities.
  • Establish and track key performance indicators (KPIs) to measure communications effectiveness and ROI across all channels.
  • Oversee content for a bi-monthly employee newsletter, quarterly President's impact newsletter, and quarterly Town Hall presentations to foster organizational alignment and employee engagement.
  • Work is primarily performed in an office setting with regular community engagement and periodic on-site visits to program locations.
  • Role may supervise direct report(s) and/or interns and freelance support as needed.
  • Required attendance at meetings, trainings, and agency events
  • Local travel as needed; occasional evening or weekend commitments for major agency events
