About The Position

The Senior Director will lead and grow our Northeast major gifts team, build a robust $2M+ portfolio of leadership gifts donors and prospective donors, and drive forward an ambitious regional growth strategy as we seek to double revenue and reach 100M people over the next 5 years. This role is ideal for a dynamic development professional who has experience closing multiyear 6 and 7-figure gifts from individual donors, is a strong people leader of frontline fundraisers, and has a proven track record of translating campaign strategy and goals into measurable results.

Requirements

  • Demonstrated experience in developing and executing Northeast regional fundraising strategies for both yourself and a team in a global nonprofit and aligning them with national and organizational strategic goals.
  • Progressive experience with people management of people managers and development officer level staff
  • Demonstrated experience leading fundraising strategies and/or securing major gifts in a global nonprofit organization.
  • Deep understanding of fundraising strategies and the philanthropic landscape in the Northeast (particularly CT and NYC), including regional giving trends, special events, and donor networks.
  • Excellent leadership and mentorship experience; ability to motivate geographically distributed people managers and frontline fundraisers.
  • Demonstrated track record of securing six-figure gifts (i.e. multiple $100K gifts in one fiscal year) and multiyear gifts in the Northeast region and management of a $2M annual portfolio.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop, nurture, and sustain long-term (2+ year) high-net worth donor relationships.
  • Demonstrated ability to convert donors into organizational champions and ambassadors.
  • Demonstrated ability to own multiple mid-sized projects simultaneously and organize your team to achieve or exceed timely and accurate results.
  • Excellent communication skills across diverse audiences and channels, with a demonstrated focus on clarity, authenticity, and attention to detail. Exceptional writing skills.
  • Ability to navigate complex donor and internal dynamics with empathy and diplomacy.
  • US work authorization and 30% travel across the Northeast Region, including NYC and Stamford CT, is required for this role.
  • Candidates must be currently living in and will continue to live in one of the following states/territories: CT, NY, NJ, PA

  • Fluency in languages that are spoken in at least one of our core locations (India, Philippines, Tanzania, El Salvador, Puerto Rico, Colombia, etc.), in addition to English.
  • Demonstrated experience converting major donors into planned giving donors.

  • Secure significant gifts ($25K–$1M+) and build a robust pipeline of future donors through research, qualification visits, and strategic engagement.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally across development, executive office, programs, and marketing & communications to ensure alignment and impact of your team’s initiatives.
  • Manage and mentor frontline fundraisers, fostering a high-performance, mission-driven culture.
  • Represent the Americares regionally, elevating visibility through events, donor meetings, and strategic partnerships.
