About The Position

The Senior Director, Executive and Corporate Communications is a senior strategic leader responsible for shaping, governing, and deploying Pfizer’s external narrative across executive communications, corporate platforms, and key external channels. This role serves as a key interface between the Corporate Communications function and Pfizer’s Executive Leadership Team, including the CEO and other senior leaders, as well as an important collaborator with other communicators and teams across the Company. The Senior Director leads a high-performing team that develops and operationalizes enterprise messaging that advances Pfizer’s reputation, reinforces the Company’s thematic pillars, and drives business outcomes. The role integrates narrative strategy, executive counsel, content governance, and performance measurement across speaking engagements, social media, owned channels, and media engagements, while closely coordinating with global business and operations leaders to ensure Pfizer is prepared for potential and/or emerging issues. This position requires exceptional strategic judgment, executive presence, negotiating skills, and the ability to translate complex business, scientific, and societal topics into clear, credible, and compelling external communications. The role is also a key member of the Corporate Communications team, working closely with Global Media Relations, Social and Digital Communications, and other cross-functional teams to shape how the world understands Pfizer’s science, business, and purpose.

Requirements

  • Minimum required: Bachelor’s degree, preferably in communications, English, social sciences, business/economics, healthcare/pre-med, or related fields
  • 12+ years of experience in corporate, executive, or enterprise communications, preferably in complex, global, highly regulated, or science-driven organizations.
  • Proven experience advising and supporting C-suite leaders, including CEOs and senior executives, with the ability to represent a clear, independent point of view.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop and operationalize enterprise narratives and messaging frameworks at scale, with a strong understanding of how communications advances business strategy.
  • Strong understanding of media, digital, social, internal, and executive communications and how they work together; current on best practices and trends.
  • Demonstrated fluency in biopharmaceutical science, the healthcare industry, and the patient and caregiver ecosystem, with the ability to translate complex scientific and medical topics into clear, credible, and compelling external communications.
  • Exceptional strategic thinking, writing, editing, and storytelling skills, with a proven ability to convey complex ideas to internal and external audiences.
  • Proven track record of developing and delivering innovative, high-impact communications programs on time and on budget.
  • High emotional intelligence, political acumen, and the ability to navigate complex stakeholder environments.
  • Demonstrated influence, negotiation, and relationship management capabilities.
  • Proven experience leading large, diverse teams across multiple locations.
  • Strong judgment under pressure, with experience in crisis and issues management environments.

Responsibilities

  • Enterprise Narrative & Messaging Leadership Serve as an owner of Pfizer’s external narrative, thematic pillars (science and innovation, growth and performance, transforming through technology, and access to medicines), and core messaging architecture.
  • Lead the development, evolution, and governance of enterprise-wide messages to ensure consistency, credibility, and strategic alignment.
  • Translate business strategy, scientific innovation, and corporate priorities into compelling executive and corporate storytelling.
  • Ensure messaging reflects Pfizer’s values, purpose, and long-term objectives.
  • Executive Communications & Counsel Act as a trusted counselor and strategic partner to select members of the Executive Leadership Team, their chiefs of staff, and highly visible leaders on external communications strategy, positioning, and risk.
  • Lead planning and execution of a narrative-driven executive communications approach that spans speeches, remarks, talking points, and digital platforms.
  • Coordinate closely with Internal Communications, U.S. Government Relations and Global Policy, Investor Relations, and Marketing to ensure consistency.
  • Provide real-time counsel on sensitive, complex, or high-risk issues with reputational, regulatory, or societal implications.
  • Prepare executives for high-impact engagements, including major conferences, forums, and media moments.
  • Platform Enablement & Content Deployment Drive an enterprise narrative and external communications approach that enables efficient development, deployment, and measurement of priority messaging across channels.
  • Lead content planning, editorial calendars, and channel strategies spanning Pfizer’s priority thematic areas and the leaders best positioned to deliver impactful communications.
  • Partner with Global Media Relations, Social and Digital Media, U.S. Government Relations, Global Policy, Investor Relations, Internal Communications, and Corporate teams to ensure integrated execution across earned, owned, and shared media.
  • Oversee the Pfizer Studio and the evolution of its operating model, Center of Excellence, External Communications Repository, and suite of AI agents and tools to support Pfizer’s communications and business goals.
  • Issues Management & Reputation Stewardship Work closely with issues management, policy, legal, and business and research leaders to anticipate, assess, and respond to emerging risks.
  • Ensure narrative coherence, especially in pre-clinical or early research areas, during crises, controversies, or periods of heightened scrutiny.
  • Protect and strengthen Pfizer’s reputation through proactive positioning and disciplined response strategies.
  • Measurement, Analytics & Performance Define and own KPIs and measurement frameworks to assess the impact of executive external communications, the Center of Excellence, AI tools, and Pfizer Studio.
  • Use data and insights to optimize and continuously improve content, channels, and strategies over time.
  • Regularly report on performance, risks, and opportunities to senior leadership.
  • Team & Stakeholder Leadership Build, lead, and develop a diverse, high-performing team of communications professionals.
  • Foster strong partnerships with global communications leaders, business units, and functional stakeholders.
  • Model inclusive, collaborative leadership and uphold Pfizer’s culture and values.
  • Effectively manage agencies, vendors, and other external partners deployed on portfolio of work as needed.
