About The Position

Senior Director, Data Management - Financial Advisor Services Vanguard’s Financial Advisor Services (FAS) business is seeking a Senior Director to establish the data foundation that will power FAS today and in the future. This role will operationalize FAS’s domain-driven, enterprise-aligned data strategy, ensuring trusted, governed, and AI-ready data products that empower advisors, enhance crew experiences, and strengthen Vanguard’s brand. The leader will drive data-as-a-product principles, establish governance from the start, and enable real-time insights for analytics and operational systems. Leadership & Strategy Define and execute a domain-driven data management strategy aligned with FAS’s 2030 vision. Align FAS data domains (Advisor/Client, Financial, Engagement, Digital, Operations) with enterprise taxonomy and standards. Champion data-as-a-product principles: clear ownership, accountability for quality, accessibility, and business value. Build and lead a team covering governance, stewardship, data quality, metadata, master data management, risk, and integration. Develop a roadmap supporting real-time, analytics- and AI-ready data capabilities supporting hyper-personalization, agentic CRM, and territory dashboards. Data Governance & Controls Implement governance from the start: policies, standards, and oversight across analytics and operational data. Establish data contracts, security lifecycle management, and metadata lineage for critical data elements. Drive consistent governance for third-party data packs and internal sources, ensuring compliance and trust. Third-Party Data Integration Lead onboarding and harmonization of multiple external data packs (assets and cash flow, advisor attributes, CRM enrichment, portfolio data). Apply source-aligned ownership and enforce vendor governance: licensing, permitted use, freshness SLAs. Standardize ingestion, schema alignment, deduplication, and survivorship rules across domains. Data Architecture & Operations Vanguard Internal Use Only• Partner with FAS Technology to implement modern patterns (lakehouse, master data management, catalog, data quality services). Ensure metadata management, lineage visibility, and automated data quality remediation workflows. Deliver real-time data flows for operational and analytical use cases. Data Products & Enablement Translate business needs into curated, governed data products (e.g., Sales Compensation, Models, Client Profile). Publish data products in a catalog with clear contracts, glossary, and permitted use. Enable self-service analytics responsibly with embedded governance guardrails. Stakeholder Management Drive adoption of FAS data strategy through education and change management. Partner with Sales, Marketing, Product, Risk, and Enterprise Data Office to align priorities.

Requirements

  • 10+ years in data management leadership; 5+ years in financial services.
  • Expertise in domain-driven design, data governance frameworks, and data-as-a-product operating models.
  • Experience integrating multiple third-party data sources and managing vendor governance.
  • Strong knowledge of metadata, lineage, data quality, and cataloging.
  • Familiarity with real-time data architectures and AI/analytics enablement.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Information Systems, Data/Analytics, Engineering or related field.

  • Experience with advisor/intermediary distribution data and taxonomies.
  • Advanced degree or certifications (CDMP, DAMA, cloud).
  • Exposure to hyper-personalization, agentic AI architectures, and operational analytics use cases.
