About The Position

Overview We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Director of Business Strategy to join the Walmart Connect team. This role is pivotal in shaping the strategic direction of the organization, managing complex partnership dynamics, and driving transformative growth opportunities. The ideal candidate brings a unique blend of Corporate Development, Corporate Partnerships, and Digital Media expertise. A strong background in consulting or investment banking is highly valued, with demonstrated experience structuring partnerships, evaluating new business opportunities, and executing large-scale strategic initiatives. Success in this role requires fluency in advertising technology and first-party data strategies — including experience structuring data-driven partnerships, navigating evolving privacy and regulatory environments, and translating technical capabilities into business value. The Senior Director will play a critical role in leading high-stakes negotiations, developing strategy white papers and thought leadership, and influencing senior stakeholders across Walmart and external partners. This individual will also lead a team, fostering a culture of innovation, collaboration, and executional excellence. The role requires exceptional communication skills, high emotional intelligence, and a proven ability to operate with credibility at the executive level.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Management, or a related field; MBA or advanced degree.
  • Minimum of 15+ years of experience in business strategy, partnership management, and negotiation and 5+ years of team management and supervisory
  • Proven track record of effective team management and leadership with high emotional intelligence.
  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills, with experience in writing white papers, executive presentations and strategic documents.
  • Demonstrated ability to think strategically and creatively to drive business growth and innovation.
  • Strong intellectual curiosity and a passion for staying abreast of industry trends and best practices.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, past experience in financial modeling, financial analysis, market sizing based on third party research and more
  • Experience managing complex projects from conception to completion.
  • Strong network within the industry and ability to build and maintain relationships with key stakeholders.
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced and ever-changing environment.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Statistics, Social Science, Communications, or related field and 7 years’ experience in retail merchandising, operations management, or related area OR 9 years’ experience in retail merchandising, operations management, or related area.
  • 3 years’ supervisory experience.

Responsibilities

  • Strategic Planning and Execution : Develop, articulate and implement comprehensive business strategies that align with the company's long-term goals and objectives including communicating organizational vision, developing strategic execution plans, building support for, and implementing business strategies, plans, partnership approaches and practices, defining metrics to track performance and decision making frameworks, and communicating progress and successes to senior leadership, key stakeholders, and partners.
  • Partnership Management: Lead and drive new strategic business development across third-party partners including new technology enablement partners, offsite streaming, social media and publisher partners and internal enterprise stakeholder partners representing new Walmart Connect opportunities. Oversee and manage complex partnership dynamics, ensuring mutually beneficial outcomes and long-term success
  • Cross-Functional Stakeholder Management : Build alignment and drive collaboration across functions — including product, engineering, marketing, sales, and enterprise leadership — ensuring that strategic initiatives are executed seamlessly and deliver measurable business outcomes.
  • Negotiation: Lead high-stakes negotiations with key partners, vendors, and stakeholders to secure favorable terms and agreements. Build required relationships to enable both partner negotiation and stakeholder alignment.
  • Strategic Analysis : Provide overall business development direction through analysis and evaluating customer needs, analyzing forecasts and incorporating them into business plans; determining and supporting resource requirements and evaluating operational processes for new business development efforts and proof of concepts
  • Team Leadership: Manage and mentor a dynamic team, fostering a collaborative and high-performance culture and contributing to team culture. Develops and implements strategies to attract and maintain a highly skilled and engaged workforce, recruiting, selecting, and developing talent; supporting mentorship, workforce development, and succession planning; and leveraging the capabilities of new and existing talent.
  • Leadership Conversations: Utilize high EQ to navigate and lead sensitive and impactful leadership conversations including cross-functional and third party partner leadership.
  • White Paper Development: Develop, drive and write insightful and well-researched white papers on relevant industry and business topics
  • Communication: Articulate strategic initiatives and outcomes clearly and effectively to various audiences, both in writing and verbally.
  • Strategic Perspective : Maintain a forward-thinking approach, continuously seeking innovative solutions and opportunities for growth; exhibit a strong sense of curiosity and a commitment to continuous learning and professional development.
