About The Position

The purpose of this role is to design, develop, and improve software, utilizing various engineering methodologies, that provides business, platform, and technology capabilities for customers and colleagues. As a Senior Data Engineer - AVP at Barclays, you will embark on a transformative journey to redefine the future of banking and craft innovative solutions. This role involves building a greenfield data and intelligence platform for Equity Derivatives, influencing the architecture, tooling, and long-term strategy of a modern data ecosystem. You will partner with global engineering and business teams to deliver scalable analytics, real-time insights, and data-driven decision-making across the trading organization.

Requirements

  • Experience with Python for data engineering and services, including FastAPI, PySpark, Pydantic, and asyncio
  • Experience with Cloud platforms and data services across AWS such as EC2, ECS/Fargate, EMR, Glue, and S3
  • Experience with Data orchestration and workflow tools such as Airflow or Dagster
  • Experience with Modern data lake and storage ecosystems including Iceberg, Parquet, and data catalogs
  • Experience with Caching and performance optimization for production systems such as Redis

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with Databricks or Snowflake
  • Experience with Observability and monitoring platforms such as Grafana or Splunk
  • Experience with Streaming and messaging technologies such as Kafka
  • Knowledge of Java and Java Scripting

Responsibilities

  • Develop and deliver high-quality software solutions by using industry aligned programming languages, frameworks, and tools.
  • Ensure that code is scalable, maintainable, and optimized for performance.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with product managers, designers, and other engineers to define software requirements, devise solution strategies, and ensure seamless integration and alignment with business objectives.
  • Collaborate with peers, participate in code reviews, and promote a culture of code quality and knowledge sharing.
  • Stay informed of industry technology trends and innovations and actively contribute to the organization’s technology communities to foster a culture of technical excellence and growth.
  • Adhere to secure coding practices to mitigate vulnerabilities, protect sensitive data, and ensure secure software solutions.
  • Implement effective unit testing practices to ensure proper code design, readability, and reliability.
  • Advise and influence decision making, contribute to policy development and take responsibility for operational effectiveness.
  • Collaborate closely with other functions/business divisions.
  • Lead a team performing complex tasks, using well developed professional knowledge and skills to deliver on work that impacts the whole business function (if the position has leadership responsibilities).
